Redemption, yes, for a coach written off by many.

And a playing style that relied in part on refereeing leniency. Not so heroic when you look at it that way, is it?

Brenton has been absolutely spot-on with all of his analysis of this. Read the statutes, spoke to the right people, got his intel 100% correct. Obviously not the result Heidelberg or NPL fans would have liked, but credit where it’s deservedly due for some dogged analysis.

This is where groups like @FSAAustralia can help. There are elements of the @aleaguemen that remain completely unacceptable in 2026 - the diabolical organisation of ticket sales among. If the APL can’t or won’t fix them, then fans need advocacy groups to speak on their behalf.

@Adam_Harwood @football360au I don’t know about too harsh - it’s safe to say things didn’t go to plan. But they were unlucky, too. Had the bounce of the ball gone their way in a couple of games this year, they’d have reached the finals. Plenty to mull over in the world’s longest off-season, now.

Probably never. I wrote a piece when I was working on The Australian Financial Review in the late 1980s suggesting the then Austrade could plug into Asian commercial markets by endorsing football, but they never did.
