For me, this recit is the unsung hero of the Matthew Passion. It floors me every time, and Mache Dich is all the more magical for being set up by it. Just so beautiful.

I feel like both arias 'creep', with their quaver pedals. In the alto aria, it's (to me) like navigating a thicket of brambles. (All of Bach haven't gone with this approach, but it's still a stonking rendition, yes?).
Whereas the tenor's creep tries not to wake the sleeper!
