Ever wonder what all the range maps of all the #butterfly species of North America look like when overlaid on each other? I did, and in finding out, made some glam (semi-)@accidental__aRt ! #sciencetwitter

@masonfidino @ShenRaphael right! reminds me of a paper that came out recently in a very high profile journal from a environmental economist that made "causal" claims that I found to be nothing more than correlational salad from an ecology perspective!

@ShenRaphael Interesting! In this case it feels more like “this is the only way you can do this” when in fact, it’s not? Like yes, we are going to control for some confounders they brought up, but I still am not buying that this makes the relationships we identified causal.

Doing research out of your field can be fun, but this is the first time I've really encountered a review from someone with an econometrics background and wow there is so much focus on how you we should be doing causal inference with observational data to make valid inference.

Hmm, interesting results. But I am uneasy when such large-scale correlational analyses that gesture at causation are based entirely on aggregate data, without having a single corroborative conversation with anyone in the communities involved. science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

Paper on mega-genus Astragalus is officially out! We focused on biogeographic problems in the arid North Hemisphere. A broader point of interest is the large-scale study of plant edaphic ecology, something I hope there is more of in the future. doi.org/10.1002/ajb2.1…
