@JanWostyn @JonathanHolslag Uw analyse klopt als je er van uitgaat dat de Chinese export 1. Momenteel volgens vrije markt regels werkt 2. Dit altijd zo zal blijven Echter zijn het artificieel laag geprijsde goederen die nu marktaandeel opslorpen en door de CCP in een oogwenk kunnen achtergehouden worden.

Ik kan zoals wel vaker de economische logica van @JonathanHolslag niet zo goed volgen. Om te voorkomen dat we in Europa met zijn allen collectief verarmen, moeten we volgens hem onze eigen duurdere en technologisch inferieure producten kopen. Alleen… wat is daarvan dan het gevolg? Juist: dat we onszelf verarmen ! Dat lijkt me niet verstandig. De supergoedkope Chinese wagens zijn een zegen voor de Europese consument. De Europese autoindustrie zal hierdoor inderdaad klappen krijgen en krimpen. Maar zolang dat aan een aanvaardbare en beheersbare snelheid gebeurt, zal Europa hierdoor netto net rijker worden. Dankzij de goedkopere Chinese wagens komt namelijk heel wat koopkracht vrij die andere Europese sectoren zal aanzwengelen. In China daarentegen blijft de eigen bevolking zo arm dat ze zelfs geen kinderen meer op de wereld willen zetten, wat tot een ongeziene demografische implosie aan het leiden is. Een andere zaak is de afhankelijkheid van cruciale grondstoffen of componenten. Dat is wél een strategisch probleem, maar dat los je echt niet op door mensen aan te sporen op bol.com ipv Temu te shoppen.

@TISWOUT @MichelleHaas_ Ik vind dat ze dat heel goed doet en moet blijven doen maar we moeten ook niet flauw doen. Het is voornamelijk omdat Vlaamse media binnen één thema liefst maar 1 of 2 'bekende koppen' keer op keer uitnodigen en Mevr. Haas hier ook veel tijd in steekt.

My prediction for Hungary: Orban will lose the election but claim he won. Or titushki will falsify elections. People will protest and then it will go to a situation like what we have seen in Georgia. This graph will shock you. I ran some calculations based on Ukraine aid tracker to determine the average brunt the taxpayer in each country bearing. The Nordic States and Baltic States' taxpayers are bearing the brunt the most while Spain and Italy have not even made it to the top-20 list. Denmark is the absolute winner here, Norway too. The American taxpayer made a sizeable contribution, has to be acknowledged, and still Again, these calculations are estimates, you can refine them further but they're meant to show you that the grudges some ppl have in Central Europe, for example, are valid because part of Europe still lives as if Russia doesn't exist. @StefanSchippers Industriële toepassingen? Niet echt. De meeste grote verbruikers zijn capitaal intensief en draaien liefst constant aan 80%+ capaciteit. Op/aframpen kost geld, los van of opslag zelfs haalbaar is. Grote opslag parken (klassieke batterijen of anders) veruit de beste oplossing.

@Schizointel Article 47 is a stronger commitment than article 5 so yes, Western Europe would definitely come to their aid. The only willingness ever in question was that of the US. I think we should attempt to maintain the Transatlantic bridge, not burn it, but prepare for it to collapse.

Nato needs to be disbanded and if there's going to be any cooperation between the United States and Europe, it should be exclusively with Eastern European countries because they're the only ones pulling their weight.

@StijnOerde @RomboutLuc Meestal niet? Vooral vroeger denk ik. Er zijn toch heel wat grote bestellingen geplaatst de laatste tijd. Daarenboven is er nog het concurrentieel voordeel dat een land als Roemenië heeft tov Duitsland mbt arbeidskosten enz. Hoe dan ook kan België zeker meer doen.

Vreemd toch dat al die landen 'local production' uit de brand slepen, en het bij ons niet verder geraakt dat naval drones (die we al bouwden), deuren assembleren (CaMo) en wat kleine deeltjes F35...

@RomboutLuc Zo vreemd nu ook weer niet aangezien pakweg Roemenië qua productiekost een concurrentiële positie heeft. Het is een win win voor bv Duitse bedrijven om extra capaciteit te creëren in dergelijke landen waar nog steeds de lonen een stuk lager liggen.

This expensive garbage won't work. You can't spend multiples of the cost of the enemy projectile to shoot down each one. Notice how he cleverly doesn't actually mention the cost of interception. It's a $50,000 missile plus $200,000 reusable drone (in theory). 2 missiles = $100k

The atomic bomb changed the way nations conducted war. Powerful nations held back because they did not want to risk engaging in conflicts where these horrors could occur. The Soviets lost a war to an inferior force in Afghanistan and America lost in Vietnam, because neither superpower was willing to escalate in ways that could risk direct conflict between them. The limits and rules powerful nations placed on themselves — the concept of “war crimes” and the “rules based international order” were created to prevent catastrophic wars and have held up since then. But those rules will not remain the rules if inferior forces start droning Americans. These people mistake our restraint for weakness and literally don’t understand that the only reason a country like Iran can survive a war with with us is our self-imposed limits on the horrors we inflict on our enemies. And if they do something bad enough, those limits won’t be there anymore.
