Milken Educator Awards Vice President Jennifer Fuller and Michigan Chief Deputy Superintendent Dr. Sue Carnell presented Johnson with a 2025-26 Michigan Milken Educator Award and $25,000 at a surprise school assembly to honor her this morning. Johnson creates a calm, structured, and student-centered classroom where she brings learning to life, from Edgar Allan Poe debates to Holocaust book studies. She meets with students one-on-one during lunch to mentor them, dresses as historical figures for class lessons, and is known for being one of the last to leave school events. After identifying a gap in informational literacy at her school, she created a class to address it, leading to steady improvement across test scores in sixth and seventh grade.
