As a Canadian streamer with many American followers that really like to donate to me and support me I find this so disturbing because PayPal is one of the only ways that I can accept tips and donations, which is one of my main sources of income. I have money locked in my PayPal account when I’ve never even sold NSFW content.
I am so upset just as I’m starting to stream consistently and feel better about streaming this happens. Twitch takes a massive percentage of my twitch income and now I can’t even accept payments through PayPal anymore, and all of the money I have in that account has been locked. As someone who lives on extremely low income and is very much struggling medically right, and is disabled and can’t get a job. This is probably the most devastating thing happened to my streaming career. That was my food money for the next 2 months. Fuck you @PayPal !

Paypal is SHUTTING DOWN COMISSIONS. No more lewd commissions. Multiple reports of artists getting notices like these. This follows on the heel of Kickstarter saying Stripe is shutting down lewd kickstarters too. It's out of their control.

I may just be slow and maybe missing or misunderstanding things..but genuinely, what does one even do in this situation? I felt genuinely relieved and happy after receiving this email from @PayPal saying some features of my account had been restored and that I only needed to provide additional information. I logged in immediately following the instructions, but I found nowhere to submit anything. I then messaged customer support only for them to say that I just ignore that email because they decided to keep the limitation.
I was cooperative and provided all the info they needed as soon as I could, so receiving that email gave me hope that there was may some progress. I just don’t understand why that email was sent at all if they were just planning to keep my account banned. It feels incredibly misleading and honestly unfair and hurtful.

They’re apparently banning accounts permanently if you’re selling “s*xually oriented digital goods”. But gosh even if I don’t do that it’s still pretty scary. As a full time freelancer PayPal is my only mode of payment besides bank transfers. Time to look into other options.

Payment processors are becoming the most powerful censors on the internet.
No court.. no law.. no due process - just one email and your income is gone forever.
This isn't about "protecting users." Artists are losing years of earnings overnight. And because PayPal, Stripe, Visa and Mastercard all answer to the same political pressure - there's nowhere left to run.
- Kickstarter banned NSFW content this week under Stripe's pressure
- Artists wake up to frozen accounts with no warning
- The content is 100% legal in the US
- EFF calls this tactic "financial censorship"
They can't ban your art. So they ban your ability to get paid for it.

You'd think people have learned this lesson by now, not to do things on PayPal if you make lewd content.
This isn't even new. I lost my ability to do business with PayPal at least 3 or 4 years ago during what essentially was an account purge of all sorts of vtubers.
