Can confirm this is true. My many years as a software engineer was literally just training data.
Lenny Rachitsky@lennysan

"Using coding agents well is taking every inch of my 25 years of experience as a software engineer." Simon Willison (@simonw) is one of the most prolific independent software engineers and most trusted voices on how AI is changing the craft of building software. He co-created Django, coined the term "prompt injection," and popularized the terms "agentic engineering" and "AI slop." In our in-depth conversation, we discuss: ๐Ÿ”ธ Why November 2025 was an inflection point ๐Ÿ”ธ The "dark factory" pattern ๐Ÿ”ธ Why mid-career engineers (not juniors) are the most at risk right now ๐Ÿ”ธ Three agentic engineering patterns he uses daily: red/green TDD, thin templates, hoarding ๐Ÿ”ธ Why he writes 95% of his code from his phone while walking the dog ๐Ÿ”ธ Why he thinks we're headed for an AI Challenger disaster ๐Ÿ”ธ How a pelican riding a bicycle became the unofficial benchmark for AI model quality Listen now ๐Ÿ‘‡ youtu.be/wc8FBhQtdsA

The craziest thing about AI is how itโ€™s been open source from the beginning. Major companies are like โ€œyeah here you go, billion dollar models for free just for you broโ€ and now there is absolutely no way to regulate or stop AI innovation Wild

You know what really, really matters? Interop. In a world where everyone can build a custom app in no time, a shared permissionless persistence layer that can provide the same data to multiple systems becomes necessary. Weโ€™re in that world now. So I guess weโ€™re early again.

@MincoETH I think people don't understand how Ai will change their life in nearest future. This is the best opportunity to get in, or be jobless in future

AI bubble believers are wrong. Iโ€™m confident in that. The demand for compute and faster inference will be astronomical. This year. Weโ€™re at the very, very beginning- not the end. There is no end. I love you. Few.

@udiWertheimer This is true if you plan to be an AI consumer only. Otherwise, there is tremendous upside to knowing how these tools work and, more broadly, how and why things have evolved. My knowledge of now irrelevant tooling shapes my understanding today in helpful ways. Not a net loss.

everyone is saying โ€œyou need to get good with the ai toolsโ€ but theyโ€™re wrong i mean sure, nerd out if you want, but the truth is any knowledge you gain about openclaw today is going to be completely irrelevant in 8 weeks max when the large ai companies launch easy to use tools that do the same thing better and without the clunkiness gaining expertise in finding and installing skills and picking the right models etc is going to be entirely useless in a month or in video generation, all the influencers on X are bragging about how smart they are with generating images with the best models and feeding them into their secret video model with the best engineered prompts and their editing tricks and the semi-passable results they get from that. itโ€™s fine but this knowledge wonโ€™t matter because in a few weeks youโ€™ll just say โ€œmake me a full pokemon episodeโ€ and it will immediately give you better results than they can get now with promptmaxxing so yeah, use the tools so that you understand the trajectory and find the right things to build for where the puck is going. but donโ€™t obssess over toolmaxxing it doesnโ€™t matter nearly as much as you think it does

Welp. Here we go. Critical AI scale within 1-2 years imo. No moats, no edge, no breaks. Just the human condition on 100x fast forward. Great for humans in good condition. Really bad for humans in bad condition.
