Tonight through Monday, we’re expecting a severe winter storm that could bring two feet of snow to parts of Massachusetts. To protect public safety, I’m declaring a State of Emergency, activating the State Emergency Operations Center and @TheNationsFirst, and am directing non-emergency state employees to work remotely tomorrow, February 23. @MassDOT is already pretreating roadways and preparing to deploy over 3,000 pieces of equipment. I’m urging residents to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary and pay attention to local parking bans. Prepare for the possibility of power outages by charging your devices and making sure you have a flashlight and batteries on hand. Take precautions with fireplaces, space heaters, and generators. Clear snow exhaust vents and fire hydrants near your home. I’m grateful to the first responders and local and state workers who’ll be out keeping us safe during the storm. Remember to look out for your neighbors and help each other get through this safely. Nearly 200 pieces of New Deal-era artwork, once on display in our nation’s post offices, are missing or significantly damaged. A part of then-President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s push to raise America’s stature on the global art stage and provide employment amidst the Great Depression, nearly 1,700 murals hung in U.S. post offices. But over time, and as the U.S. Postal Service faced serious financial challenges, some of the art has vanished, been painted over or is unaccounted for. That’s according to new reporting from the Washington Post’s Jacob Bogage. PBS News’ Geoff Bennett (@GeoffRBennett) spoke with Bogage about this project and why efforts to preserve these pieces of American history haven’t materialized.
