Single-use vapes will be banned in June 2025, but the problem doesn’t vanish. All vapes, even the rechargeable ones, still waste valuable materials like lithium and copper—enough to power 10,000 electric vehicles annually—and they’re a wildlife hazard when littered. Material Focus, a non-profit organization in the UK dedicated to increasing the reuse and recycling of unwanted electrical items, wants urgent changes. Executive director of Material Focus,Scott Butler: “It should be as easy to recycle a vape as it is to buy one. We want more vapers demanding that where they buy them provide recycling points as it is a legal obligation for all those who sell vapes to provide this."
