Why is the world afraid of long grass/meadows? For those adopting a #NoMowSummer, I applaud you👏 You are setting the standard & 100% helping your local wildlife. Since we are no longer in May, I’m conscious the mowers are being dusted off, so I’d just like to say #JuneIsTooSoon

West Kirby beach, a SSSI, SAC, SPA and Ramsar - what was a globally important saltmarsh in transition to one of the rarest habitats in Great Britain, embryonic sand dune, scalped bare today. Great job of worsening the nature catastrophy, @NaturalEngland 😃🌱

Thanks to the wonderful drying weather, full Visitor Trail loop around Phase 1 is now open. Lots of hobbies on site, booming bittern, cuckooing cuckoo, cattle & GW egrets. Floating Bridge & Boardwalk still closed awaiting inspection & repair. Sedge warbler by @StuartCarlton48

Some farmers say you can't plant trees on the coast. But there are many hidden valleys like this running to sea where it's possible. This woodland on Pembrokeshire coast was full of bird song. A magical place. The new Sustainable Farming Scheme is an opportunity for more woodland

So many councils are still over-mowing public grassy areas. Wildflowers - crucial lifelines for pollinators - mown down to lifeless, 'tidy' grass deserts. Who wants their council to join those increasingly giving nature a chance instead?

One year ago I approached @The_RHS about their sale of Slug Pellets, Pesticides & Weed Killers. After visiting @RHSWisley one year on, I’m pleased to report that not a single Pesticide, Weed Killer or Slug pellet was seen in their store. Shame they’re still referring to many beneficial plants for wildlife as “WEEDS” & providing gardeners with information on HOW & WHAT PESTICIDES & WEED KILLERS to use, on their website. Somewhat disjointed messaging compared to their homepages, don’t you think? Link to their list of “available pesticides” below😖👇 rhs.org.uk/advice/pdfs/pe… Here’s an idea @The_RHS, if you’re going to pedal gardening for wildlife, why not go the whole hog & not mention pesticides/weed killers/moss killers at all? As the leading horticultural society in the UK, you have the opportunity to effect a MASSIVE change to benefit our wildlife &, whilst I appreciate you’ve come a long way in the last year, since my advice & meeting with your Director of Sciences, there’s still some work to do…

Our tiny Twites under the heroic care of Oliver Crowther are nesting now. Nearing extinction in the lifeless landscapes of northern England this tiny finch can only be saved by captive breeding and reintroduction. Trying against the odds is better by far than not trying at all.

Our cunning plan is progressing nicely & we're aiming to re-open (albeit it partially - just the section of Trail between Beach Hut & Corfe Castle) on 22nd April from 10:00. After a frustrating 6 month closure it'll be great welcoming people back to Langford!! Photo @James4Nature
