@fin91982798 @jfitzgeraldMD @allisonoconn Bed rest is not part of modern OB/Gyn practice. Nor are weekly cervical checks. Diet restrictions during labor are based in the anesthesia literature (and should prob not be debated without involving an ob anesthesiologist!)

@jfitzgeraldMD @allisonoconn I feel like a lot of the things I (or pregnant friends) were asked to do/not do seemed to not have evidence behind them at the time of the rec. Bed rest, weekly cervical checks with no medical reason, no eating during labor, diet restrictions, etc etc. Maybe it’s changed?

This! The math is not mathing. So much health system bloat. Hospitals have entire teams to address these unnecessary barriers from insurance companies. Hurts patients. Delays care. Contributes to burnout. So many reasons for no. Ban #priorauth

So why does #priorauth exist?! To “contain costs” by insurers… Doesn’t sound terribly cost effective, does it? 😑 $58 million in labor cost alone of initial submission, not including the labor cost of denials/appeals and not including the cost of ED/hospital stays that results from delays/denials… Sounds like it’s time to get rid of #priorauth, no?

NC GOP has overriden Governor Cooper’s veto. Monster bill restrictions will take effect July 1st. If you hear anyone calling this a 12-week ban, correct them. This was designed to gut access in this state, especially for people traveling. Absolute travesty.
