Three Sessions, Zero Answers: Sajad Lone tears into Govt’s stonewalling on commercial leases Flags serious accountability deficit over continued concealment of lease details & revenue generation Peoples Conference President and Handwara MLA Sajad Lone on Saturday forcefully raised the issue of non-disclosure of commercial lease data in the Assembly, questioning the government’s continued silence despite repeated attempts. “Honorable Speaker, sir, for three sessions I have been asking questions about commercial leases… but there is no answer,” Lone said, underscoring that the matter has been consistently ignored across two budget sessions and the Srinagar session. He stressed that “the people of Jammu and Kashmir have the right to know how much government land is under commercial lease, and how much money the government is getting.” Lone further revealed that he had formally written to the Speaker in the previous session seeking intervention. “You said it will be provided, I have it in writing… this time also I didn’t get an answer,” he remarked, highlighting a pattern of unfulfilled assurances. Questioning the intent behind the silence, Lone asked bluntly, “Ultimately, what is the matter? Why is the government not giving an answer regarding the commercial leases?” He warned that continued evasion on such a crucial issue weakens transparency and erodes institutional accountability within the Assembly.

@sajadlone @DrVeeri This"Barsaati Daddu" is sch a disgrace to the very office of Dy CM someone so insensitive should be anywhere but not in assembly at least. He treats the assembly like his personal turf belittling MLAs as if they don’t matter. Enough of this nonsense time to put him in his place!

This is a new low. The accidental deputy CM disdainfully and distastefully mocked at and made fun of NC legislator @Drveeri sahib’s emotional moments in the assembly yesterday. I have my differences with Dr Veeri. But as a human being, I hold him on high esteem. And at a personal level, not at a political level I take exception to this shameless behaviour. The Deputy CM is a habitual offender and has now become an embarrassment for the Legislative Assembly. His alleged autonomy to abuse and embarrass is not too strategic to not be deciphered. In 2019 everything was taken away from us. And punitive measures were taken against the people of J and K in the name of law and order. Telephone networks were barred. Curfew was imposed for days. Most of the political leaders were jailed. I was jailed too. @Drveeri was jailed too. Have seen him go through lot of stress in the jail. And it seems that Deputy CM is a gift our CM sahib has given to the people of J and K for enduring hardships, for Five years, post 2019. This deputy CM actually needs a serious coaching session in basic manners. Legislative courtesy and propriety would have demanded immediate sacking. But that would be expecting too much. Hope CM sahib shows some humility and intervenes to end this non stop embarrassment

CM sahib allowed the introduction of private member bill. The government didn’t oppose it. The bill pertains to land. More specifically about extending the leases on government land that have expired. The bill pertains to some of the costliest real estate in Kashmir, worth I would guess about 70000 to one lakh crores. Or maybe even much more. And no prizes for guessing. It is aimed to help the super elite of Kashmir. May I ask what is in it for the poorest of the poor. Lakhs of poor families who have built houses on 2 Marlas or 3 Marlas or at the most a kanal. They continue to persecuted on a daily basis. They are as helpless as they have been for decades. Do they don’t deserve a bill. I am not opposed to the bill per se. But it the super elite only who have to benefit. May I ask some questions. I asked them in Assembly. Never got an answer. What is the total land in Kanals that belongs to the government and has been leased out. What is the lease amount that they have been paying till date.

That Entire Film Plays Back Again': Sajad Lone links attack on Farooq Abdullah to father's martyrdom in raw Assembly address Stressed every Govt. in J&K used security for political ends; Proposed civilian award for the old guard's saviour J&K Peoples Conference President and MLA Handwara Sajad Lone delivered one of the most emotionally charged addresses of the current Assembly session on Saturday, condemning the attack on National Conference patriarch Farooq Abdullah while drawing a direct and painful parallel to his own father's assassination while demanding accountability on the political use of security. Opening with relief at Farooq Abdullah's survival, Lone called him "one of the most colourful and dynamic human beings we have seen in politics in Kashmir," before raising what he described as a glaring injustice. "The person who saved him, his name hasn't come up anywhere to date," he told the House. "This is a great injustice that even I don't know his name till date." Lone formally demanded a civilian award for the unidentified individual, urging the government to recognise the act before it fades from public memory. The speech then turned deeply personal. Lone reminded the House that approximately 20 legislators and members have been martyred over the decades, including his own father and the father of fellow member Sakina Itoo. "Whenever there is an attempt or an assassination, our pain becomes fresh," he said. "That entire film plays back again. Death is inevitable, everyone has to die, but this death by violence, it never leaves you." In a moment of rare candour, Lone spoke of what he called the structural failure of security decisions made on political grounds. Recounting the circumstances around his father's killing, he pointed directly at a question the House has long avoided. "He didn't contest elections. He was a separatist then. If there are ideological differences, shall we allow a person to be killed by not giving him security? That is a big question that we will have to ask." He went further, disclosing that in the immediate aftermath of his father's martyrdom, he was denied security to travel to the very site of the killing for burial rites. "Sir, that government did not give me security to go there," he said, recalling that the then Divisional Commissioner Parvez Dewan personally warned him against making the journey. "I said he was my father, he raised me all my life, should I not go there? He said they will kill you." The appeal, he added, was that of a son, and one he believed thousands across Jammu and Kashmir shared. Lone was unsparing in his assessment of a pattern that has persisted across administrations. "Whichever government it may be, it has used security for political ends. And perhaps today's government is doing it too. But we have to learn from it." He called for an unconditional pledge that security would never again be made a tool of political pressure, adding that any government denying the practice was being dishonest. Closing on a note of gratitude, Lone congratulated Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his family on Farooq Abdullah's return. "Perhaps I, Sakina ji, and the many people here, we were not that lucky, our respected fathers did not come back," he said. "But I am so happy that Allah Ta'ala has kept this asset. Farooq Sahab is now one of the few remaining from the old guard, who is a guiding father for all of us."

The din of the proposed changes in the Land Grants Act refuses to die down. This is the recurring gossip amongst the elites. I personally feel that misrepresentation and selling something as “for the poor” when the poor are not even remotely connected to the proposed changes is a sin. First we fail to do anything for the poor and second we use the name of the poor to provide cover to the process of exploitatively enriching the elites. I have a humble submission. This bombast that the bill is for the poor is very very irritating. Could you please tell us how the poor will be helped in the proposed changes in the Land Grants Act. Can you identify the poor people. There are 51 lakh souls in J and K officially recognised as poor(BPL AND AAY). How would these changes help them. Next comes the lower middle income group, slightly above the BPL. How does it help them. It is not meant to help them and will not help them. On the other end of the spectrum are the super elites the super rich of Jammu and Kashmir. I know for sure that any amendments are meant to help them. That’s the sole motive of the government. And I am not against help being rendered to them. But why use the name of the poor. And why leave out the poor. The government of the day has two set of supporters. One is those who didn’t queue up on the polling day but donated money for the ruling party. And second are those lakhs of poor souls who queued up for hours and voted for the ruling party. This bill if it is tabled and passed will be for the elite donors who paid donations and not the poor voters. So a government elected by the voters for the rich, elite donors. But then those queued up elected a government which it seems we as people deserved. Garbage in Garbage out.
