POLL! What game author (or team or system builder) would you give the Nobel prize in literature to? In his will Nobel stated that the prize should go to an author whose works have been of highest utility for mankind. The prize is given for a whole body of work during a career.

@MirjamPE @togelius Right, but those were works in print (and a philosophical angle) or with narrative qualities (Winston’s speeches and Dylan’s music). Sid’s games even with voluminous output really doesn’t touch much base with literature imho whilst narrative games does more so.

@perjonaslund @togelius Nobel stated that the prize can be awarded for “other writings that by form and realization have literary value ” (my trans). So the prize has been awarded to Rudolf Eucken, Winston Churchill, Bertrand Russell and Bob Dylan even though their main work was not classic ‘literature’

@togelius @MirjamPE Is it close enough to literature though? Maybe the Greens has a start where they could aim for it after “That dragon, Cancer” and could be fit for an nomination that could actually have an remote chance.

@gormlai Nobel stated in his will was that he favored idealistic bodies of work. As he lived in a time of isms and ideals I chose to translate to “utility”, nodding to utilitarianism. Swedish word is “nytta” can be translated to “usefulness”, “utility” and is tied to the concept of value

@MirjamPE It is difficult. We would have to define utility first. Is something of utility if it is pure entertainment? Or does it imply some kind of learning?

@mark_riedl the talk was great! It was just a small disturbance, it didn't feel like a problem at all, it was quickly fixed. thanks for the inspiring talk! Listening felt like entering a forgotten good dream. I need to get back to researching co-creation of agents.
