@Adam_Cutler @visualnotepad Point being: designers DO need to not only understand “the business” because it means being able to see when the ppl within it are shooting themselves in the foot…and of course to also identify when the needs “the business” is at odds with the needs of a society, etc.
English

@visualnotepad @MiroslavAzis The business is as much of a “user” as our actual users are. To actively ignore or brush off understanding business needs make us a part of the problem instead of a part of the solution. @MiroslavAzis , your take is quite cynical, no?
English

@Adam_Cutler @visualnotepad The opposite. Internal stakeholder req inherited from misguided/legacy/exploitative incentives ≠ actual business + customer requirements.
So much change work = finding daring leaders or helping checked out cynical stakeholders find safety/courage to overcome their own system.

Often people think design systems are a big ui kit. Think of it like this:
Design = decision
System = governance

When people think of solutions, they tend to overlook those that involve removing parts of a system. This bias towards adding, may help explain creeps of features in software, regulation in policy, hiring in organizations, etc.
