Man jailed after faking cancer by putting an iPhone cable up his nose to scam family out of £345,000. Former Irish hurling legend DJ Carey has been jailed for five and a half years after faking cancer to con friends and family out of about £345,000. Between 2014 and 2022, he used fake hospital photos, including one showing an iPhone cable up his nose, to pretend he was receiving treatment. Carey, once a national sports hero, admitted to 10 counts of fraud. The court called it a grave betrayal of trust that exploited people’s sympathy and damaged confidence in genuine medical appeals.
