@DeeBeattieNW @andreabridgeway @CindyDalglish Respectfully, @DeeBeattieNW the shrinking EA programs don’t have time to do 1-2 weeks of Autism training. In my program, I had 120 hours of ABA, then POPARD. Programs now don’t include any Autism training, putting it to EA mentors to ‘teach’ them in practicum or on the job.

Without standards of practice, how do we really know if someone has qual’s to work w children w autism? Currently @surrey_schools says 1667/1680 EAs are trained in autism. But what does that training look like? Is it equal education & training among them all? #bcpoli @bccpac 1/

@CindyDalglish Believe me, connecting with our students IS our priority. The issue as always, is EAs having to fight for respect. The kids we support need our support, especially now. The district thinks we need to ‘earn our keep’ as evidenced by the lack of consultation with CUPE.

While I appreciate that they are in a support role helping out the ESW (so important), their students they support should be their first priority.

Bennett: not enough time to talk about every one she's excited to work with. Singles out Hilder, Dixon, Muego and Naidu.

Dixon: board does work together in collegial fashion. Hopes Windsor, Kanakos come back. Says Bennett has taken her by storm.

Hilder: smaller class size means more one on one teaching, better learning, students getting more support. Need to graduate more teachers and EAs, not water down EA training. Helps us be proactive.

Hilder: from EA perspective, we are met with violence on a very regular basis. Often what happens is people don't trust EAs to know their students. Need to listen to EAs. More funding, Better training
