So much talent was on display @TheGulbenkian last night for #NationalPoetryDay2023 and the @CanterburyFest Young Poet of the Year finals. I was honoured to judge and pick these fab winners, from over 400+ entries from across Kent. Thanks to all the schools that entered.

I spent this evening listening to poetry by students from all over Kent for Canterbury Festival’s school’s poetry competition. What made it even better was @TowersSchool KS3 Poet Laureate WINNING in her age category. I’m bursting with pride. What talent we have! #proudtobetowers

The @TowersSchool English department stepped into students’ shoes and wrote a P+C comparative essay in timed conditions for this afternoon’s CPD. It made us see our own strengths and weaknesses but ultimately how much we should realistically expect of our students. Effective CPD!

How do you assess at KS3 without using GCSE mark schemes? Do you assess writing as well as reading at the same time? Vocabulary? Using GCSE mark schemes, in my opinion do not work and is not a true representation of what a student can achieve. Can any one advise? #teamenglish

This afternoon the @TowersSchool Scholars delivered individual projects to the whole of the English department. It was so delightful to hear their passions which ranged from true crime, to analysing biased vocabulary in the media to Greek mythology. #proudtobetowers 💫👩🏼‍🏫
