It’s my last lesson with year 11 tomorrow before they go on exam leave and I’m honestly gutted. My very first year 11 class and I’ve been so lucky, they are all absolutely amazing and I will miss every single one. Please tell me saying goodbye gets easier with experience 😭

@MissR_SciBio Yes, I gave each of mine a little anchor pin, because the anchor is the school emblem for St Clement Danes School. Funnily enough they seemed to love them, but maybe they were being polite!

Has anyone ever got their year 11s leaving gifts? Thinking of doing some keyrings, has anyone ever bought/made them before? Any ideas welcome 🥰

@MissR_SciBio Mine all wrote letters to themselves in year 7 so I’m putting those in a little card with a message and then I’ve got their year 7 photos and year 11 photos. I did the gift thing one year but most of the time they just wanted sweets!

@Alex_Bramley3 ‘To be fair’. My year 10s used to take the mick out out of me for it, but now I overhear them saying it in conversation so who’s the real winner 🤣

So turns out my class have been keeping a tally of every time I say “I’m conscious of time” Now I’m conscious of saying it 🤦🏻‍♂️ Are there any sayings/ phrases you over use?

Fantastic day with year 8 at @SilverstoneIM. They really enjoyed the interactive museum, doing a virtual lap of the circuit, walking the track and learning about racing tyres. Completely recommend if you’re looking for a trip 😁

@optotoxical Also had some a really good session on LGBTQ+ in education when I was training which really helped with the sort of language to use!

I’m teaching about the sex chromosomes in humans… what is the appropriate description of XX and XY? Am I describing biological sex or biological gender or something else? #chatbiology

@optotoxical No need to be embarrassed! I asked too before I taught it. When asked I’ve just been careful to draw a clear line between sex and gender identity and that the two can be different. To be honest as well, the kids are pretty switched on with it, particularly in KS4.

@breezenglish @MrTs_NQTs When I was training last year and ofsted came in I had my lessons for that day taught by a more experienced teacher (not sure if this is standard practice) but I did get called to speak to an inspector as part of a panel.

Help please: Y11 intervention session on Weds. been trying to put something together for days but nothing seems right. Never done anything like this before so don’t know what’s expected. Format: -1h Bio Paper 1 -1h Chem Paper 1 -1h Physics Paper 1 -1h Paper 1 RPs (AQA Trilogy)

@MissR_SciBio I find with revision it works best as there are so many different ways the students could need support.

@tonicha128 I’ve only got 1 hour on the required practicals but that’s what I intend to do for that hour! Will just be so hard to condense it down ☹️

@MissR_SciBio What about a focus on core practicals? Getting them to recall methods, equipment, variables and data analysis.

@vicster28 That’s what I was thinking, I’ve made a note of the major focuses (on the advanced information) and was thinking of doing something board based

@MissR_SciBio I wouldn’t have copies of the sheets as the head of Chen does that. What I tend to do is see the topic and do white board revision. Not normally computer based.
