In 2008, South Africa experienced its worst xenophobic riots, long before the EFF existed. At the time, Julius Malema had just been newly elected as President of the ANC Youth League and couldn’t have imagined a future outside the ANC. He even went on to contest a 2nd term in 2011. This shows the migration pressures in South Africa is not new, it existed long before the EFF was formed. When unrest broke out in 2008, people took matters into their own hands. Lives were lost. Thousands were displaced. And still, the problem was not solved. So what does this mean? 1. The EFF did not create the current migration challenges; they existed long before its formation. 2. South Africans have already tried vigilantism and xenophobia and paid for it with their lives. Xenophobia is not, and has never been, a solution to undocumented immigration. #RegisterToVoteEFF
