@MissZRay To continue the discussion and conclude the lesson you could get students to analyse the habits they have that have the biggest impact and come up with their own solutions to help lower their score. Then they could live like that for a week and see if their impact has changed!

@MissZRay That sounds like a great step towards sustainability! How would you integrate a worm farm into a KLA?

This hands-on experiment is great for not only teaching sustainable practices but for integrating #sdg12 into KLA's such as science and literacy. #UoNTeach #Educ4750 What KLA's are you using to teach #sustainability?

Did you know that worms are nature's recyclers? Check out the lesson below ⬇️ where kids can watch worms break down waste before their eyes! educationworld.com/a_lesson/Compo… #EDUC4750 #UoNTeach #handsonlearning

@MissJoyTweets I love how you mentioned flowers too. It is so important to plant flowers, especially native ones for our wildlife and bees. Here is a guide for some beautiful native flowers to plant! bhg.com.au/australian-nat…

@Brookejarvie02 Students having a deeper knowledge of their learning has so many benefits, these include retaining and transferring their learning as well as an increase in motivation to learn. This article explains deep knowledge in more detail. activelylearn.com/post/the-benef…

Students need to apply higher order thinking and cognitive behaviour to further develop their deep knowledge and understanding of projects, (Spindler, 2017, p.603). This is why I will be integrating #Blooms within my unit. #EDUC4750 what skill integration will you use? Why?

@mccarter_chad Thanks for highlighting that Chad, collaborative learning acknowledges diversity, interpersonal development and builds on students confidence and communication. Students share more ideas when they are collaboratively learning than they do with the teacher so it's definitely good!

I would display this poster in my classroom. It clearly shows the #SDGs and reminds students that every human plays a part in all of these issues. Would love to see other poster ideas! #uonteach #sdg3 #GlobalGoals

Found this on Pinterest. It would be a great poster to have in the classroom as a constant reminder of the environmental impact of plastic. Does anyone else have posters they would display within the classroom? #uonteach #SDG14 #LIFEBELOWWATER

@IsabellaCrowe5 I'll be definitely using these tips at home! Integrating #art into your #SDG12 unit by reusing plastic materials is a fun and creative way to educate your students on simple ways to reduce plastic in our waste bins.

Take a look at this video of ways we can up-cycle plastic. This is a good classroom tool to spark creative thinking among students. Facilitate the conversation. What old materials do you have at home that you could upcycle? #SDG12 #EDUC4750 youtube.com/watch?v=VP_Fk8…

@IsabellaCrowe5 This is an effective way to link personal experiences into learning, going through their lunchboxes as a class allows students to share ideas with each other. Next step would be to see what we could change in the canteen!

As a first step to reducing our waste consumption and production, my class will be taking a look at plastic use in their lunchbox. In class discussions, we will be going through lunchboxes and brainstorming what alternatives we can use to non-reusable wrappings! #SDG12 #EDUC4750

These activities are such a useful tool in the classroom to get students educated and excited about the benefits of growing your own resources. We can use the science KLA to help create environmental learners, before introducing initiatives like a school garden! #SDG12 #EDUC4750
Zoey R@MissZRay

Great #science experiments to do in the classroom to promote #zerowaste. Benefits of these experiments are having your own vegetable, fruit and herb plants to grow at home or in the school vegetable garden! #SDG12 #UoNTeach #educ4750 youtube.com/watch?v=VTls5a…

One-fifth of the world’s final energy consumption in 2013 was from renewable sources. What are some other ways we can integrate renewable resources into the classroom/schools? #SDG12 #UoNTeach #Educ4750

@AlyssaG98300150 It is a great feeling when the local council is acting on #SDG12. Spreading awareness to the broader community with a larger platform makes such a positive impact! It is also good to have these useful tips online to refer back to.

@MissBradford01 I definitely agree with you Makayla, I have organised some environmentalist teams within my classroom and their roles change every week so everyone has the opportunity to have a turn. My school loves public speaking so the topic of #SDG12 will definitely be addressed.

Bullying ISN’T okay! Students should feel #safe when going to school. What ways can we prevent bullying school wide and in the classroom? Make your school bully free; tell an adult, ask the victim to be your friend, tell them to stop and DON’T be a bystander #UoNTeach #EDUC4750

@MissZRay This is a great idea to get them thinking about what exactly they need to include. You could even adapt on this idea and get students to have podcast with farmers this would incorporate ICT.

A great way to get the students involved in the local community. Students write questions down prior to meeting with their local farmers that relate to #SDG12 and making their own school vegetable garden. Maybe the farmers can come visit the school too! #UoNteach #Educ4750 #SDG12
Matilda Hubbard@MissHubbardAU

Take the time to head to your #local growers markers 🍓🌿🥕 This is a great way for teachers to #network & discuss the sustainable strategies used by local farmers. You can then take these methods back to your classroom & school garden! #UoNTeach #Educ4750 #SDG12 #schoolgarden

@mccarter_chad This would be a great poster to have in the classroom Chad. 21st century learning relies on ICT, makes you wonder how much of an impact we are having on the environment. Using resources such as books in the library instead of laptops frequently will reduce our energy consumption!

@MissZRay Happy Feet is also an engaging movie that teachers students about climate change along with the effect that plastic has on our marine life. Students could use these movies as a stimulus for a writing piece that addresses the need to protect our environment.

This is a decent review of The Lorax. Definitely sit your students down to read this book or watch the movie. It addresses one’s impact on the environment, complexities surrounding success and ambition, and taking responsibility. #visual #Educ4750 #SDG12 #UoNTeach
