@EricaSkiddle@georgejroy I also teach 6th grade. I also find the challenge of maturity as well as student access to social media. Many students are still unfamiliar or not allowed to have social media accounts.
@AimeeParry8@CoachRAdrian@georgejroy This is a great article to lead the discussion, especially with high school students. Students are able to see the reality of their digital footprint.
@Miss_Fehlig@CoachRAdrian@georgejroy This is something I touched on in my initial "tweet." I teach students in 9-12 grade and feel that using social media is a great way to teach employable skills like tact and discretion. Its also a great way to show them how negative comments can impact their future.
@georgejroy#EDTE731SPRING2020 Social Media can be great but also dangerous for young people. Great because you can connect and reach a large audience. Dangerous in that what you post is also how you will be perceived. It is their resume so make sure it reflects their character.
@MCiarroccki@georgejroy I think the best way to help students manage the influx of technology is through modeling and providing positive opportunities for students to express themselves. When students have a prompt or a purpose for a post, it is much less likely to leave a negative footprint.
@Miss_Fehlig@georgejroy Everyone is desperate for some interaction during this time. We are so lucky to have these tools! How are you helping your students manage the influx of technology use? We didn't have much time to explain and talk about digital footprints.
Social Media is especially important during the unchartered territory of digital learning due to COVID-19. Students are desperate for connection with their peers and teachers. Facilitating and modeling communication via Social media is critical #EDTE731SPRING2020@georgejroy
2nd grade boy: "I think my brain is busted. All of a sudden I LIKE reading."
Me: "That's great! Do you know why?"
Boy: "Yes. Reading is the only thing that's keeping every day from being exactly the same."
