@KayGem58 The county boards of each affected county need to agree to the same terms. For the Upper Chain of Lakes (Bellaire Dam) that is Antrim and Charlevoix Counties; for the Elk/Skegmog/Torch Lakes (Elk Rapids Dam) it's Antrim, Kalkaska, and Grand Traverse Counties. It's herding cats.

The Bellaire Dam is currently at its highest water level in recorded history. And on top of that, the entire village is currently without power.

@KeshaWorld91 They won’t. We’re getting inches of rain every week and it’s better down south now that our snow has melted but northern Michigan still has a lot of snow. That’s what caused the Cheboygan River to get so high and the other dam in Bellaire

We know there are a few of you who would really go for the "imagine if this was snow" comment right about now. Here on the morning of April 13th, 2026, rain is ongoing for some. Rainfall totals this morning, later tonight, and later Tuesday, plus scattered on Wednesday will amount to the estimated rainfall amounts you see shown. It's highly likely that a few 3-5" reports also trickle in, but medium range model data is not specific enough at this time to hone in on any single location. The Lower Peninsula will see area-wide totals over 1", with many locations likely averaging around 2" by the end of Wednesday. All of this excess rain this week will continue to overwhelm already high rivers and lakes. Both river and low-lying area flooding is expected, especially in areas with 1) a lot of ongoing snowmelt, and 2) areas already saturated from the past seven days. Flooding is certain, and flash flooding will continue for many local waterways. The state of emergency remains in effect for the Cheboygan Dam in Cheboygan. We will continue to revise this precipitation forecast with new data each morning. Petoskey, a small Northern Michigan town with fewer than 6,000 year-round residents, has joined the ranks of Nantucket, Mass. and Napa, Calif. as a luxury housing market where more than half of new home listings are priced at $1 million or above. Realtor.com identified 13 “pure luxury” U.S. housing markets where more than half of all active listings are priced at $1 million or above. The report, released April 8 and based on March 2026 data, put Petoskey in 11th place, with 53% of its active listings priced above $1 million. Petoskey’s median list price in March was $1.11 million, according to the report. Data showed the northwestern Lower Peninsula city has an average of about 104 million-dollar-and-up listings per year. Looks like Pellston (PLN) needs some more service...
