Question for #DataScience and #Automation experts: I have 250 images, and each has a QR code tag (see example below). I need to rename each image using the info from the QR code which corresponds to Plot number. Any suggestions for tools, libraries, or scripts? #ImageProcessing

@jeekinlau That’s an odd one. What is a 3 year term asst prof? Like a 3 year contract? Gross

Just saw a three year term assistant prof position in breeding. Requires of 2-4 postdoc. Need to teach and mentor students. Just 5-10 years ago you could land a TT assistant professor job straight out of PhD program or with 1-2 year postdoc. What is happening in #academia

The UC Davis plant community is recruiting for a new head of the Charles M. Rick Tomato Genetic Resource center. This position is a cornerstone of the tomato and Solanaceae community and provides some really cool research and teaching opportunities. recruit.ucdavis.edu/JPF06784

9yo (who loves cybertrucks), earnestly: Dad, how come you don't like cybertrucks? Most of the people I see driving them are other bald guys

We just published a simple approach for precise control of wheat and triticale plant height without affecting seedling size. Hope you find it useful biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

@ctmurphy1 Based on reading the comments, I think it is up to you to explain the situation and the lack of input, etc. to the editor of the journal, with your decision on how best to proceed. I don’t think it is a question about how to proceed, but a statement, “this is how to we proceed.”

@SeedsAndBreeds lol no. More than every 4 years, and only to share articles with people who request them, even though they are all open access… 🫠

@jeekinlau I think if you know the student way in advance you can recommend they apply for MS, and then keep them for a PhD. Otherwise, at least at UCD, it doesn’t seem easy to admit a PhD applicant as an MS student.

@jeekinlau Rules like this will reduce the number of students you evaluate, limiting your options. I said the same thing, then I accepted a straight to PhD and she is killing it, because she is driven. We have 2 MS first and 2 no MS, all 4 have struggled and have succeeded.

I don’t agree with this. Masters allows you to make mistakes that would not be acceptable on a PhD level. Also I have noticed the quality of straight PhD students is much worse than those with masters. If I ever chair a student they will not straight PhD students.
Neal Khosla@nealkhosla

the world would be better off if we got rid of master's degrees. either do a phd or be done. master's are effectively useless continuations of undergrad w/ a little bit of research. note: i am a master's degree holder.
