@tvaziri I have a vivid memory of seeing The Abyss in Times Square in the summer of 1989. As Bud (Ed Harris) descended in his liquid-oxygen suit his wife kept radioing to him. “Can you see the light, Bud? Bud, can you see the light?” Finally a guy behind me yelled, “I wanted a Bud Light!”

@Chris_Cardno I always wished that Honda would have released an Element-shaped gas can, handle at the hood. Would have sold one with every car.

@Stuart_Dennis The real value isn’t the increased dynamic range because 90% of the time we won’t use it. But the Rec2020 color pallet is always used and vastly improves the image.

Check out "Hands-On with #Panasonic Panasonic Cinema, featuring the EVA1" free event in NYC @MEWShop Feb 19th at 6pm! PLUS guest #Cinematographer Jodi Savitz will discuss how she uses these cameras in her work! Reserve your spot here:bit.ly/2wfNk1U @TheVaricam #EVA1

@themattgorrie @CineBill I imagine that engineers are working the problem on a component level. I don’t know if it’s possible but the current math shows the reduction in protection. It goes directly to how they function so that would require a ground-up re-design.
English

@MitchPanasonic @CineBill My bad, I was under the impression that it didn't happen with the first gen of SDI ports? I didn't realise it was simply due to bandwidth differences. Does that mean there is no way to incorporate filtering into 6G and 12G boards?

🤯 The origin/making of the Seinfeld theme.
So much to unpack here...
First: This dude.
Second: He re-recorded it for every single episode
Third: the bpm set to Jerry’s timing?
Fourth: it wasn’t a real bass?!

@CineBill @thekayfox @jairajs @TheNewsshooter This has been an extended research project at Panasonic as well. It’s difficult because the issue is hard to replicate.
English

@thekayfox @CineBill @jairajs @TheNewsshooter Be my guest and live in denial. But that does not change the reality of what I have been directly involved with across multiple major manufacturers.
English

@MitchPanasonic @CineBill @jairajs @TheNewsshooter Well, if this is a thing, than we should not be using this equipment near high voltage power lines, electrical storms, in planes, near gamma radiation sources, on carpet, near large power transformers and a host of other things that would induce current in the SDI line.
English

@thekayfox @CineBill @jairajs @TheNewsshooter In hyper-extreme cases this can be the case, but in practical use what you describe is 1-in-millions. The issue I’m talking about is more 1-in-thousands.
English

@thekayfox @pampariusfilms @CineBill I’m not able to speak to that as I don’t have details. Note that I was at Convergent Design for the release of Odyssey & Apollo and transition from 3G SDI to 6G SDI circuits. I can tell you this is an issue across manufacturers.
English

@MitchPanasonic @pampariusfilms @CineBill Are there differences between what Panasonic uses and what TI and Semtech supply as far as drivers/equalizers?
Should more manufacturers be putting fuses inline like Convergent Design?
English

@thekayfox @CineBill @jairajs ARRI posted and @TheNewsshooter picked it up for a story. I commented on the ARRI post & article on CML earlier today. Bill shared the link in this thread. I’m sorry to break the news to you that you are wrong about this.
English

@CineBill @jairajs @MitchPanasonic Where did they announce that? So far I've only seen something about something that was posted to Instagram.
English

@themattgorrie @CineBill It’s not design. It’s physics.
English

@pampariusfilms @CineBill Some 3G devices could be more sensitive, but it became more prevalent with 6G and 12G. To allow that high data level to pass the SDI ports could not have as much voltage protection.
English

@CineBill @MitchPanasonic When does it begin? I mean SDI an digital cameras had been there for quite long...
English

@ghuff @elleschneider @Nickrob There’s a point where you can’t dumb down an image for all systems and uses, otherwise you’ll only have bland, simplistic imagery. Also, the better it is at the start the less likely there will be issues down the line.
English

@MitchPanasonic @elleschneider @Nickrob The problem goes further than the camera. You can have a moiré free image in your master and, by the time your render ends up on its final distribution form (say in a small window on a webpage), it now has moiré.
English

@Nickrob EVA1 has no moire. Has something to do with downsampling of 5.7k sensor to 4k.
