@metatrader_john @IrishTimes Be interesting to know for the US tech multinational jobs here in Ireland….how many are cutting edge tech/programming/engineering and how many are ad sales/translations/other support services.

@IrishTimes Meta employs 5,000 in the UK. The majority of Meta's UK workforce is concentrated in London, which serves as the company's largest engineering hub outside of the United States. The reality of the Irish Tech boom based on Irish education system! It's mostly a front for IP TAX

@LPerrins it could be argued the extent to which left leaning NGO/Quango/advocacy orgs have influence on Gov policy some depts like education are effectively implementing soc dem/green/lab policy as it stands now under FF/FG unless there really isn’t that much diff.

@Clearpreso I actually thought it was a good speech. The point he made that they can be in the room shaping AI with their values and humanity or not engage and be a passenger seems reasonable.

LOL. basically saying ask not what AI can do for you, ask what you can do for AI: "The question is not whether AI will shape the world; it will. The question is whether you will help shape artificial intelligence"
Alex Kantrowitz@Kantrowitz

This is incredible. Artificial intelligence getting booed out of the stadium in any commencement speech it’s mentioned. Maybe telling college students AI was taking their jobs wasn’t the best strategy. Must watch —>

@KeithMillsD7 Need to be fair and equal on tax to all young workers, not just grads. Maybe zero third level costs tied in to work in Ireland for a period.

No parsley sauce for me, there's tons of flavour already. Suspect there might be a few opinions on here though.

AH please Rory talked up as though he was the second coming you need to be winning races like this its a listed race not even a Group race where your drawn should not even come into it if he was as good as said Anyway would not write him off yet but with the praise heaped on him without substance its hard not to be disappointed

@emmetoliver @JP_Biz Don’t have the numbers but given the zero rate years are now long gone is their no concern at rising refinancing costs as debt is rolled over in decade ahead?

@JP_Biz Yes debt as a % of output is the key measure, or debt interest as a % tax revenue. On both counts theres not much thats very 'scary'

Framing of this is odd. Nowhere do we get debt ratios. Sounds bad that debt has risen from 30bn to 200bn over 35 years? However the debt-to-GNI* ratio has gone from c100% to c60%. rte.ie/news/2026/0514…

Wags might even say that US tech (Apple/ Microsoft/Oracle more than Google and NVIDIA) and US pharma rents are most of Ireland's current tax base. cfr.org/articles/the-l…

@DaraghCassidy @fergalreid I’m struggling to think of any high end outlets on Dame St. presently. Not knocking it, it’s grand for a coffee,a pint,a kebab but high end it’s not.

@fergalreid I wouldn’t call Dame St touristy. Besides, in many cities the touristy areas have all the high-end shops.

I'm not being funny and I know a lot of this arises from the council refusing to reinforce George's Dock but could we not just... flood it again? And just let it be water? Put in some pontoons, offer a concession for "urban kayaking" or the like. Job done? Am i missing something?

@Wowa1_ @DavidCarvi14183 @ChrisPoole___ Quick ground, sharp track and a fairly brutal season opener in the John Durkan. I do like the Henderson and Pauling horses though and some scope for improvement with them also

@Mitchell4Pat @WalterRacing1 When you’ve got the like of I Am Maximus you would be happy with just him🤣but after yesterdays performance it was so impressive so I would love to see him campaigned differently next year. If they do take him the route you was suggesting I still wouldn’t see this issue imo

@jacobt19066 @jacknaughton_ Fact To File will be 10 next year and his best days will be behind him so, like this year, the race may not take too much winning. Fingers crossed he nails this one.

Typical end of season stuff, but Gaelic Warrior looking every inch a real champion. Can he come back next year as a 9yo and run to the same level? If so then he'll be pretty unstoppable. Big IF though according to the ages of recent Cheltenham Gold Cup winners - the last 10 have been younger, but who among the younger horses looks a real threat at the moment?
