Denver deserves a representative that will be truthful: about their funding, about their votes, and about how the genocide in Gaza connects to our struggles here at home. Arms embargo now. #kirosforcongress

#Ethiopia: More than 330 IDPs reported dead in #Hitsats, 125 in #Adwa as coordinators warn of worsening humanitarian crisis At least 333 internally displaced persons (#IDPs) have died at the Hitsats center in Tigray since May 2025 due to hunger and lack of medicine, while in Adwa 125 people have died since October 2025. DPs and camp officials told Addis Standard that shrinking humanitarian assistance and continued new arrivals are pushing already vulnerable communities into what they describe as a life-threatening crisis, intensifying pressure on limited resources. Displaced residents and coordinators in Hitsats say the situation has further worsened, with rising fatalities, disease outbreaks, and reduced humanitarian support. “To speak of the conditions in Hitsats, one must see it with their own eyes,” said Abrha Mebrahtom, coordinator of the Hitsats IDP center. “Though there were good starts previously, they have now ceased. People are wasting away; people are dying.” “We want to return to our homes,” Tekle said, warning of growing concern as the rainy season approaches and calling for observers to witness conditions firsthand. The Commission of Inquiry on #Tigray Genocide (#CITG) cited findings from its August 2025 assessment of 92 IDP centers, including Hitsats. According to the Commission, 325 deaths occurred at Hitsats during the assessment period, primarily due to lack of food, medical care, and other basic necessities Read more: addisstandard.com/?p=55953

URGENT: Shewit Wudassie, Salsay Woyane member & producer of Romanat Online podcast, was detained by security forces in Mekelle today for his political commentary. This is part of a dangerous pattern of silencing media voices in Tigray. We demand full transparency about his arrest and his immediate release. Freedom of speech is not negotiable. #FreeShewit #PressFreedom
Kjetil Tronvoll@KjetilTronvoll

Sad to hear about the detention of Shewit Wudassie, an academic, public commentator, and Salsay Woyane representative. I encourage the regional authorities in Tigray to immediately release Shewit, or make public the charges against him and provide a due process of law.

My heart goes out to every mother who lost a son, every woman who lost her husband, and every family that lost a loved one in this war. Ordinary people should never pay the price for politics. But something doesn’t add up. A TPLF leader once said Eritrean soldiers were in Tigray and responsible for killings. Now the same leader says Eritrean forces were never there. Both can’t be true. Which one is it? #NojusticeNoPeace #Accountability #Tigray #Ethiopia #Eritrea

News: Fears of fresh war drive #Tigrayans to flee north #Ethiopia Its deep in the night in #Mekelle, the capital of Ethiopia’s #Tigray region, but dozens of young men with backpacks and suitcases are searching for a bus to #Addis_Abeba. Abel, 23, fought for the Tigrayan Defence Forces during the civil war against the federal government of 2020-22 that killed at least 600,000 people. He worries a fresh conflict is imminent. "It’s not safe here anymore," said Abel, whose name has been changed to protect his identity. "I saw people die. I don’t want to relive that, I don’t want the war to catch up with me again." While war sets much of the #Middle_East alight, just across the waters of the #Red_Sea, another conflict is looming in the Horn of Africa. Federal and Tigrayan forces are once again massing at their shared border in northern Ethiopia. There are no exact numbers, but hundreds are fleeing Tigray -- a region that was home to around six million people before the war -- every day by bus or plane. Abel wants to join them but the buses are full for the 700-kilometre (435-mile) drive to the federal capital of Addis Ababa, one of the few areas of Ethiopia not facing some form of conflict or insecurity. PRESS STATEMENT:  STOP THE WAR DRUMS. Troops are encircling #Tigray. Drone strikes have killed civilians. The people who survived genocide are being pushed by #Ethiopia and #Eritrea, once allies now adversaries, to the brink of another war. 600,000–800,000 killed. Zero accountability. A peace agreement never implemented. We demand peace. We demand dialogue. We will not be silent. Read our full statement: omnatigray.org/stop-the-war-d…

#Tigray Health Bureau Warns of Health System Collapse as Medicine Supply Remains Suspended ---- Mekelle, March 6, 2026 (Tigray Mass Media Agency) Tigray Health Bureau reports that the Tigray’s healthcare system is approaching collapse as the supply of medicines to Tigray remains suspended and shortages of fuel, medical equipment, and budget continue to affect health services. Briefing journalists, head of Tigray Health Bureau, Dr. Amanuel Haile, states that the Federal Government of Ethiopia suspends the delivery of medicines to Tigray, a situation the bureau describes as unjustified and one that is already creating serious consequences for the population. The bureau explains that disruptions in medicines, clinical inputs, and equipment, combined with fuel shortages and insufficient financial resources, severely weaken Tigray’s health infrastructure and limit the ability of facilities to provide regular services. According to the bureau, medical supplies reach Tigray intermittently until December, but no medicines enter Tigray during January and February, placing the health system under emergency conditions. The health bureau indicates that the suspension of supplies places additional pressure on a fragile health sector that is still struggling to recover from extensive destruction suffered in recent years. The bureau calls on the federal government to urgently restore the flow of medicines and essential resources. It also urges the international community and human rights organizations to recognize the seriousness of the situation and support efforts aimed at resolving the crisis and restoring critical health services in Tigray.

People in Zalambessa live w/o basic staples of survival: water is strictly rationed, no electricity, no healthcare, food insecurity, barely any access to education. They are also surrounded on three sides by Eritrea. They would be engulfed if a new war broke out. /2

In my latest after a long time for @AddisStandard, I describe what I saw in #Tigray and where things could be headed. Tigray needs peace, but peace alone won’t save the region. The people of Tigray need to be able to go home and rebuild.

#Commentary: Stalled Recovery, Rising Fragility: #Tigray between self-reliance and societal collapse addisstandard.com/?p=55491 As military forces reportedly gather near #Ethiopia’s Tigray region, fears of renewed conflict are intensifying. In this commentary, Duke Burbridge notes, “It’s anyone’s guess whether Tigray will be a target or a staging ground to attack #Eritrea,” warning that either scenario would be catastrophic for civilians who have only just survived one of the century’s most brutal wars. Reflecting on his recent visit across Tigray—from #Mekelle to some of the hardest-hit rural areas—the author underscores a consistent and troubling reality: “Suffering and despair are endemic.” He highlights that most residents lack at least one necessity—food, water, medicine, or shelter. Yet the humanitarian response has been sustained largely by Tigrayans themselves, many of whom continue to work without pay to support their communities. The article further underscores that, despite the 2022 ceasefire, reconstruction has scarcely begun. Displaced families remain in camps where, as one director remarked, life is now “harder than it was during the war.” With aid diminishing, commitments unfulfilled, and new arrivals fleeing insecurity, recovery remains fragile and uncertain. The author concludes that “survival has limits,” underscoring that Tigray must not only avoid another war but also be allowed to recover from the last. If the federal government continues to prioritize conflict over reconstruction, Burbridge cautions, it will “eventually lose the war against its people.”
