@psychedupnorth @EducationUnbc @wilkinson_77488 @acadience I just want to 2nd how important your teaching on literacy was, as a grad of the previous cohort. Now in my 3rd year teaching (one on an LOP during the program), taught first and second language and both elem and hs. Nothing has been more valuable than knowledge of lang and lit.

I just have to say that my students in the Regional Teacher Education Program @EducationUnbc are awesome, and here’s an example of that awesomeness via a text I received from one of my students. I’m so proud of @wilkinson_77488 for doing @acadience training while still a pre-service teacher! And kudos to @CMSD82 for implementing the training across their district. My expectations in the Regional Teacher Education Program @EducationUnbc are high & my literacy course is rigorous (sorry, not sorry). They have to be because teachers’ knowledge of literacy development and effective, evidence-based practices is critical to students’ long term outcomes in school, & in life. Literacy is a protective factor that breaks barriers and opens doors. In the short time I have to focus on literacy during the program, I know I can’t teach them all they need to know, but I aim to give them a solid foundation so they can continue building on their scientifically-sound, relationship-focused knowledge base with confidence. Thanks for letting me know I’m on the right track Terri! #bced

This is an author tweet not a teacher tweet, but what if... grown up picture books?romcom picture books? magical picture books? 1200 words max and beautiful illustrations? Does this exist? I think in an era where our attention spans are lower this could be a lovely art form.

@hankgreen is it just me or do we have enough problems at home that we should be focusing on ? there’s other countries in the world in better positions than us that could be helping out there

@hankgreen I missed the part where taxpayers have to care about wars in foreign lands. You can help on your own hun. But I don't think you actually care about humans, just politics and looking good to your peers.

@MamaWeasleyy "Just horrible that I have to actually exercise" is the entire vibe. You mean it actually does help my mental health and chronic pain despite being the most annoying advice for both on the planet??? Why.

@Lawmamabear1 Keeping our 3 yr old home for ~3 extra weeks as we are expecting a baby in the next few days. If you're able to keep them home any extra time I'd say do it. Last year we were ill with not covid all of January. On return - consider carageanan nose spray at Starr and end of day.

@MamaWeasleyy It's honestly painful to watch. There are so many real and simple ways we could reduce spread if this hadn't turned into a "both extremes are making the situation so much worse" situation.

@mctheatreela @luckytran @michael_hoerger If it helps to know, I taught all term as did my partner with many known exposures and we got through without catching it. We ran hepa filters in our classrooms and used carageenan spray 2-3× daily. Both teaching a 2nd language so masks came off at times.

We are in the midst of a big COVID surge, caused by a new variant. This is a helpful chart on holiday COVID risk put together by @michael_hoerger, based on current rates and modeling. For a Christmas gathering of 10 people, there's a 30% chance at least one person is infectious.

@carolinadog81 @MamaWeasleyy @PTF_org Really rest. Like really as much as possible. Use an iota-carageenan spray 3+ times a day. Keep very very hydrated. Rest even more. I had it early in this pregnancy, asked for a little extra monitoring, and am now 36 weeks - textbook pregnancy. I hope it's smoothe for you.

@LaMariposaAzul @MamaWeasleyy Just reiterating what others have said. Have done shots in arms for c19 and flu since my daughter was about 2. No concerns. Read a couple books or watch a couple videos beforehand to prep if helpful for your kid. Plan something fun after. Acquire a cape, call them a hero, etc.

Tell struggling older readers that it isn't their fault. That 95% of kids can learn to read with appropriate instruction. That the system is at fault on this one. Don't let them believe it's a reflection of their intelligence when there is a system that harmed them.

@BrookesPubCo @TIE_BC Yes and, some students would prefer to do their therapies without what might feel like an audience. Students might find a standard classroom very stimulating and like one to one time. Students should have the option for sure. But needs vary (and sometimes conflict).

@howie_hua I know that to get a percentage that ends 0 of anything that ends in 0 I can take the zero off both and multiply. 2x8 is 16.

It's Mental Math Monday! If a pair of pants cost $80 but you have a 20% off coupon, how would you mentally calculate the new cost?
