The Government of South Sudan has officially activated the new Public Health Emergency Operations Center (PHEOC) and assigned it to the National Public Health Institute (NPHI). During a high-level handover event in Juba last Friday, leaders from both the national government and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) came together to celebrate this important step. The facility was officially passed to the NPHI to improve our response to health emergencies. The event was attended by our National Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Luk Thompson, and the Director General of Africa CDC, Dr. Jean Kaseya. Vice President for the Service Cluster, H.E. Hussein Abdelbagi Akol, along with Cabinet Affairs Minister Dr. Martin Elia Lomuro and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Akuei Bona Malual, had important discussions with Africa CDC leaders to strengthen health cooperation across the continent. Strengthening Supply Chains to Provide Better Health Services! On May 3rd, 2026, a team of high-ranking officials from the @MoHRSS2011 , @gavi , @undpsouthsudan and @unicefssudan in South Sudan visited the Riverside Warehouse Expansion Project in Gumbo, a project funded by Gavi. The Riverside Warehouse expansion will increase the storage capacity by almost 4,500 pallets to ensure life saving vaccines and medications reach the hardest to reach communities. Health Minister Hon. Sarah Cleto Rial inspected Juba Teaching Hospital this morning following the restoration of power. The facility, which relies on 1,000L of fuel daily for its generator, faced a 2-day outage due to fuel shortages. Following a meeting with @JEDCO, the Ministry of Energy & Dams, and SSEC, Juba Teaching Hospital will now be connected to an uninterrupted power hotline to mitigate future outages.
