The reason Mark Pope's comments get dissected so much now is because he's had so many weird comments this season. The elite coaches I've spent any time around are highly effective, usually efficient, communicators.

Pope is asked about the pressure to win with people talking about $$$ spent on rosters today… It’s something we’re all chasing. If there’s no pressure, you’re not in the mix. But it can add distractions. Accuracy in reporting has taken a massive, insane hit on a daily basis. We’re constantly seeing things asking if anyone believes this stuff. Pope is directly asked about offering a player $7-9M… Kinda dances around the question, reiterates that reporting may not be the most accurate. Says to BBN: Please don’t believe anything you read about anything. It’s probably around 5% accurate. But that comes with the job at Kentucky. Asked about the $7-9M again, Pope says he’s not going to give people a headline, but encourages someone to dig in and do some good reporting.
