Personal update: I've joined Anthropic. I think the next few years at the frontier of LLMs will be especially formative. I am very excited to join the team here and get back to R&D. I remain deeply passionate about education and plan to resume my work on it in time.

@bm0rd @TaraBull Honestly, I think colleges should go back to that. Was it one person that read everyone’s name or was there some sort of rotation?

@MobolurinA @TaraBull At my graduation we were told to spell it out phonetically if it’s a difficult name.

Graduation Nightmare: AI Ruins Ceremony College staff proudly announces they're using a "new AI system" for name calls… and it completely botches it, missing hundreds of graduates' names. After families paid hundreds of thousands in tuition, grads get told: “Sorry, no name for you… but here’s a consolation picture” The staff literally laughs in their faces. UNACCEPTABLE

@jaqwagon @TaraBull That’s fair, but even a literate person would look at some foreign names for the first time and get it wrong. Unless we rotate people and have them study the pronunciation of each set of names beforehand. Funnily enough though, common pronunciations could also be wrong.

@bm0rd @TaraBull The issue I see with that is pronunciations (foreign names), and vocal fatigue. Vocal fatigue is easy to fix by switching the person that reads it, but pronunciation is trickier to handle. Unless someone is studying all the names beforehand.

The output of a GIS workflow should be the methodology that produced the map. Most organizations are saving the wrong thing.

GIS workflows are incredible at capturing the world. Terrible at capturing themselves.

Today I learned that our innate perception of numbers (without formal math training) is logarithmic. For instance, on a number line from 1 to 9, an innate thinker will place 3 in the middle because it is 3 times bigger than 1 and 3 times less than 9. I am flabbergasted.

The gap between what GIS can do and what most people think GIS is for is enormous.

@MobolurinA @morganlinton @elonmusk Grok the model is unique because it’s trained on finding the truth, regardless of that outcome. How that translates into a Grok Build agent that’s main purpose is coding/developing is not 100% clear to me.
