💔 Kwame Gee writes This Dr. Agyekum and Cynthia saga has exposed far more than one fraudster or missing donations. It has laid bare a country whose systems fail ordinary Ghanaians every single day. A sick young woman needed urgent care, but Ghana’s broken healthcare system couldn’t help her. A Ghanaian in the UK had to beg strangers online because the state that should protect its citizens simply doesn’t. In a functioning nation, no one should have to turn to social media sympathy to see a doctor or trust random middlemen with life-saving funds. Yes, the money must be accounted for and the real fraudster (Frank, the middleman) exposed. But the real tragedy began long before that with a collapsed healthcare system, poor leadership, and politicians who abandon the people after elections. While many blame Dr. Agyekum, the deeper shame is that Ghanaians have normalised suffering so much that citizens now act as emergency governments for one another. Today it’s Cynthia. Tomorrow it could be your mother, sister, or child. A nation doesn’t develop through fancy buildings or slogans. It develops when its people can fall sick without becoming social media charity cases. Ghana deserves better. Our people deserve dignity not survival by sympathy.

Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, Majority Chief Whip in Parliament, has explained why he chose to keep his marriage to Ebi Bright away from the public eye. According to him, public service comes with risks that can extend beyond the individual, often exposing family members and children to unnecessary harm and political attacks. He noted that he was advised early in his political journey by figures such as Speaker Bagbin and former President Jerry John Rawlings on the importance of protecting one’s family life while serving in politics. He emphasised that shielding loved ones from public scrutiny is a deliberate decision to prevent them from becoming targets in the heat of national politics. Photos by etsedafeamekpor (X)
