Poverty is expensive in a way that people don’t understand. If you can’t afford a dentist you have long term teeth damage. Not affording healthy food means poor health. Not affording ‘good schools’ means missed opportunities. It is a compounding cycle.

The 65-game rule was always a self-inflicted mistake addressing a nonexistent problem and thinking the worst of players. It was easy to understand this if you recognized the history of awards and recent All-NBA track record.

The 65-game mark for MVP is fine. It’s rare to have an MVP-caliber season playing fewer than 65. The 65-game mark for All-NBA is awful. It puts players at further injury risk encouraging them to rush back to make the cutoff. Plenty of dudes play below 65 and are All-NBA-worthy.

@JeffVeillette @TheStanchion after adjusting for era, Bure was pegged for 64 & 65 goals in '00/'01. here was stamkos' 60 goal season (era adjusted 68) and Ovechkin's 3 year run of 60 goals on era adjusted average from 2012-15.
similar to a 60 HR hitter its a great feat but not the end all be all of impact.

If Silver announced today that he’s changing the MVP/All-NBA minimum from 65 to 62 (20 games missed max), would anyone object? Just admit you made the number too high and fix it on the fly. Cade missing out on All-NBA would be outrageous.
