Again. The private sector is heavily subsidised by the state, with very little, if any, of the gains making it back to the people the state is meant to serve. Instead the rich get richer and ordinary citizens bear the costs of the losses.

People do not eat ideology - well, they do !! The pipe is not neutral. The budget allocation is not neutral. The decision to outsource, to privatise, to build infrastructure in one ward before another - none of that is administrative coincidence. Services are politics made physical, delivered to your door or deliberately withheld. Local government is not a plumbing or electrical company. It is a site of ideology. What services get delivered, how they get delivered, to whom first, through what mechanisms, at what cost, and governed by whose values: every single one of those questions is a political and ideological choice. What is the relationship between the municipality and the resident - are you a citizen with rights or a consumer with a bill? These are ideological questions, and the LGE is where those questions get answered in the most direct, tangible way in people’s daily lives.

@Sentletse The issue is not whether South Africans queue at refugee offices specifically. The issue is whether the state has the administrative and financial capacity to manage rising migration pressures while already struggling to serve its own citizens.

You guys are making arguments that are not premised on reality and make no sense. Why would foreign nationals be delaying you in getting services from Home Affairs? What on earth would a South African be doing at a Home Affairs refugee office?

I don't understand how we fail to identify the naivety of thinking source of funding is irrelevant, we just need public infrastructure to be available & working. Eskom is right in our faces, available & working but suffocating the economy.
