Minister Abdinasir Abdi Arush
Over the past two weeks, The state-level #ElNino #Response #Committee has actively engaged in a fundraising campaign, receiving contributions from the dedicated staff of the SWS ministries and other generous well-wishers. Through their collective support, a total of $57,546 was raised. Here's how the funds were allocated. 1.$7,100 for one-time emergency food support to 300 families in #Baidoa. 2.$10,000 sent to #Berdale for the purchase of basic food. 3.$5,000 allocated to #Huddur to purchase for essential food items. 4.$5,000 allocated to #Waajid to procure basic food items The committee is deeply grateful to the staff of SWS Ministries and Cabinet members for their dedication and generosity. We appreciate their invaluable support.

UPDATE: The unfolding situation in Baidoa as the blockade on Baidoa enters its 1st Week: 🎯The inflation rate continues to rise as the price of basic commodities is reported to have skyrocketed. 🎯There are reports of many people leaving Baidoa town for Mogadishu after the living cost became expensive due to the blockade imposed on the town. 🎯Baidoa hosts more than 600,000 Internally displaced persons—and they are among the severely affected by this situation due to their vulnerability. 🎯There were reports of self organized business community/traders trying to de-escalate the situation—they held their 1st meeting with Southwest Government this morning. SWS denied any negotiation with AS and asked the local traders to not get involved in this situation. 🎯Reports also indicate that this blockade/siege might hasten launch of the 2nd phase of the “Black Lion” offensive along Mogadishu—Baidoa road. 🎯The blockade will affect hard-to-reach areas that relied mainly on this supply route. 🎯The immediate impact could be mass displacement and humanitarian crisis—if no immediate solution to this unfolding situation is reached. 🎯Southwest government this morning asked local traders to lower price of the basic commodities(foodstuff) —but they are forgetting that the price is determined by the law of “Supply & Demand” #Biadoablockade #Baidoa #Somalia
