VN gevra om teen SA op te tree oor verbreking van Solidariteit-ooreenkoms Solidariteit het vandag ’n formele klagte teen die Suid-Afrikaanse regering by die Verenigde Nasies se Internasionale Arbeidsorganisasie (IAO) in Genève, Switserland, ingedien. Dit is omdat die regering ’n ooreenkoms met Solidariteit oor rassewette verbreek het. Hierdie ooreenkoms, wat onder toesig van die IAO bereik is, het onder meer bepaal dat rassewette tydelik moet wees, dat niemand op grond van ras afgedank mag word nie, dat ras nie die enigste kriterium vir ʼn pos mag wees nie en dat vaardighede in ag geneem moet word. Die ooreenkoms het ook bepaal dat die bepalings deur regulasies in die Staatskoerant gepubliseer moet word. Dit is ’n bevel van die hof gemaak, maar die regering het dit nie as regulasies gepubliseer nie en het die hofbevel dus geminag. Volgens dr. Dirk Hermann, uitvoerende hoof van Solidariteit, minag die regering nie net ’n internasionale liggaam se proses nie, maar ook die plaaslike howe. “Ons moet dus die regering by die internasionale forum waar die ooreenkoms bereik is, aankla, asook in plaaslike howe.
