@RuffneckAviator So UA and probably DL have rules in their contract to prioritize spirit hires over anyone else. But yea screw that I have all my apps in and I’m hoping I can get a call before to many spirit pilots.

My advice to anyone looking for an airline job in the immediate future, that’s not former Spirit; if possible, maybe wait a bit before submitting that application, and here’s why: Sometime around 2008, a neighboring fire department (we’ll call it XYZ Dept) was moving from a full-time contract (non-union) organization to a full time career (union IAFF) one. This was a big step and the current full-time firefighters (close to sixty members) were excited. Unionization meant better pay, benefits, pension, etc., all the things a firefighter hopes for. The only catch was the current members at XYZ all had to test to get their jobs back. If you’ve never taken a civil service test, it can be pretty rigorous. For the fire service, typically you start with a written exam, having passed the written you move on to the physical agility, then the interview with the trustees, and finally a polygraph & health physical. And though most of the guys were fairly certain they’d get their jobs back, (and they were given some preferential points) there was definitely an aire of uneasiness amongst them. Now, to be a Career/Union organization, the department had to open their doors to the public and accept applications from everyone eligible. This meant hundreds of applicants from neighboring suburbs could now apply, and there was nothing the previous XYZ members, now fighting to get their jobs back, could do about that. If a new applicant had better qualifications, tested higher, and interviewed better than an old member, tough cookies. There were a handful of guys that I knew, both on ours, and from neighboring departments, who were chomping at the bit for a career job, and they applied at XYZ Dept. At one point, a few of them approached me and asked, “hey, aren’t you going to apply for XYZ?”, to which my response was always, “Nope.”. Though at the time I also sought a position on a career Dept, I also knew sixty some brothers, many of whom were friends, were simply trying to stay employed, and I wasn’t about to interfere with that process. Months later, after XYZ Dept had completed the testing, we found out five or six of the former members were unfortunately not hired back. However, by that time word had spread how I refused to apply, and I received numerous “thank you”s from those members who got their jobs back. Much like the fire service, aviation has a comradery and professionalism that extends beyond company lines, and being suddenly unemployed can be a scary place for anyone. Should you be in a position to show patience, and wait a few weeks or months before dropping that resume with your preferred airline, I’m sure the folks at Spirit would appreciate it.

@CWLemoine It makes sense a lot of FA and pilots live in FL and MCO just lost a lot of flights to most DL hubs. Not to mention all the other spirit bases. I’m sure it made commuting harder than it already is.

@thelifeofcarri 100% you would get there faster in a car once you add in time for pointless TSA and WX issues. You should be driving that route not flying.

@nickyyknowsball Good thing the FAA has zero oversight on Ryan air and they have way lower hiring standards and training than the US does. So honestly they might not know what a flare is 😂

So fun fact the FAA has very strict qualifications for pilots to actually become become pilots and very strict continuous qualifications, flight attendants also have to endure a very rigorous training and have to have continuous safety related qualifications, spirit airlines was one of the safest airlines in the United States you’re just being a know it all prick who doesn’t work in aviation, I work in aviation I have first hand experience in this
robedPierre REDUX@USAP_COG

I mean there’s a literal joke in aviation circles about the way RyanAir pilots doesn’t understand how to flare their landings… I’ve always believed in “you get what you pay for” to a certain extent.

@esjesjesj Nope they were ruined long before that. But merging with JB could have saved thousands of jobs and kept flights for hundreds of thousands of people

@cturnbull1968 Spirit was gonna go bust lonnnnnng before the fuel prices went up they already had gone bankrupt twice you dumbass 😂 if they have merged with JB at least all the pilots and FAs and some of the desk workers and others would be jobless and consumers wouldn’t have less flights.

Dear MAGA Morons What do you think was more detrimental to the budget airline industry, the blocking of the Spirit/ Jet Blue merger or the the increase in jet fuel prices because of the Iran war? I’m asking because I’ve noticed you’re not saying shit about the latter.
Elizabeth Warren@SenWarren

I've warned for months that a @JetBlue-@SpiritAirlines merger would have led to fewer flights and higher fares. @JusticeATR and @USDOT were right to stand up for consumers and fight against runaway airline consolidation. This is a Biden win for flyers! apnews.com/article/jetblu…

@rankingthemouse This was all Biden’s fault 😂 if his dumb ass people hadn’t blocked the jet blue merger we would have 1 larger stronger airline. Not one about to go under and another one that is struggling

Flew with a FO who use to be a U2 pilot. He was horrible and I had to take over the controls while he floated and was about to scrape the engine with his ridiculous bank angle going down the runway (34L) at NRT. Something I learned early in my career that just because the pilot was ex military doesn’t mean they are good. It didn’t matter if they flew fighters, transport or tankers
Habubrats SR-71@Habubrats71

Difficult basic requirements. Lockheed hiring new U2 pilots! I know a few U2 Pilots.. Can you guys still fit into your pressure suit?

Le pregunté a varios hombres divorciados con los que trabajo: "¿Cuándo te diste cuenta de que tu matrimonio había terminado?" 9 de cada 10 mencionaron estos momentos. (Y no fue infidelidad, no fue una gran pelea)...
