@SamAdlerBell Participation in a certain shared reality has an enlarged moral salience, and that reality’s fragility is terrifying and can’t be acknowledged. Non-comprehension then is a moral failing, rather than a reflection of a fundamental human experience.

Not a full thought, but I think maybe contemporary, at least American culture, has lost its appetite for the comedy of non-comprehension. The failure to transmit meaning or relay information is only to be feared.
