@JamesMartinSJ Or the Lord's Prayer? (Not that I approve, but it is short) Ideally they should post prayers of all the major religions, including Ancient Egyptian and Babylonian, if they are going to post any.

If the idea is really to "introduce prayer and Christian teachings into public schools," then why not post The Beatitudes? "Blessed are the poor." "Blessed are the peacemakers." "The States Pushing for Ten Commandments Displays in Classrooms" nytimes.com/2026/03/19/us/…

You need an ID to board a plane, buy cold medicine, or open a bank account. Requiring one to vote shouldn't be controversial. We need to pass the SAVE Act in the Senate.

@patoneill @AliceFromQueens I just sat in my living room and watched a 1930s movie with Fredric March and Carol Lombard. I have dark blue curtains in my west-facing living room. We have a floor-through.

@steve_hanke Realism is all about how international law never mattered. Now, it has suddenly gone out the window?

Distinguished UChicago Prof. John Mearsheimer on trusting US diplomacy: “International law has gone out the window, and diplomacy has gone out the window. You can’t trust the Israelis or the Americans as far as you can throw them.”

@LFChowning @ZaidJilani The original report said much less. The larger figure was dreamed up to assuage US guilt much later after radiation effects of the bomb manifested themselves. Meanwhile, the amazing Soviet Blizkrieg against Manchuria and threat to Hokkaido arguably hastened surrender to the USA.

trumanlibraryinstitute.org/tru-history-pu… "Meanwhile, some War Department estimates indicated that the number of Japanese dead could reach between five to 10 million, with the possibility of 1.7 million to as many as four million American killed, wounded, and missing to combat, disease, and accidents if the worst case scenarios based on the recent Iwo Jima and Okinawa battles came true." But sure, it just needed 2 bombs... 😪

@simon_schama Reading Ulysses now. Woolf's diary entry seems overstated to me. It's an incredibly ambitious book, a deeply political tract, and a deep, competent study of conscious processes, spinkled with humour and deep knowledge of the role of the sacred living in a wretched Irish city.

@dramdarcy She was not aristocratic, she came from a family of hard-working and productive lawyers, writers and civil servants. Some of whom were religious dissenters. She belonged to the labor party and was married to a Jew.

@JoshPhillipsPhD They should make them read aloud. It is horrifying how many people with degrees can't read a long sentence aloud.

@MonardaB I have been known to lecture on Woolf on occasion ... she had darker family forces to reckon with.

@dramdarcy And even if she was a great artist, that doesn’t prevent her from also being a colossal idiot and short-sighted bigot for much of the time.
