@avivaloca We used to have a wall of "Juicy Words" often from what we were learning and or texts we were reading. Gradually the kids would create their own juicy word lists in their personal word books to record words they really liked and could use in their writing.

Habitat, vehicles, concentric circles, objective, subitizing, perseverance ... the list goes on! Our kids have used these words and others. As someone who loves learning new words, I couldn’t love this more. How do you approach new vocabulary with your kids? What do you notice?

I love this for so many reasons. 1) He wanted vehicles so he wrote to ask for them (using writing to communicate). 2) He confidently sounded out vehicles on his own. His sound choices make sense to me. 3) He chose the word vehicles. Not cars or trucks. 1/2

This is so me in a nutshell. I never have a pen, but initial plans always need to be written in marker. Apparently, 7 years later, I favour using the Prime Minister’s Award paper for these planning notes of mine. Then somehow,they move from these rough sketches to our blog posts.
