Affordability. Healthcare. Housing. Infrastructure. Carbon Tax. Those are the issues that are impacting Canadians and those are the issues that were top of mind when the country’s Premiers came together for our Council of the Federation Meeting in Halifax. I support my fellow Premiers in Ontario, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Alberta who are calling on the Federal Government to remove the carbon tax from all heating sources as they have done for those heating their homes with oil in Atlantic Canada. While I appreciate that our residents who heat with oil will get some reprieve it doesn’t help those heating with other sources in our region, such as natural gas. None of this however addresses the bigger problem. Carbon tax is causing the cost of all of life’s necessities to go up. It is making it more difficult for people to afford food, fuel, and housing. Canada is a very small component of world emissions (1.5%). We cannot have any meaningful impact on climate change, without there being a solution to world emissions, including those from India and China. I was looking around thè web and the Fed's are charging .1633 çents per litre, for Home Heating Oil across Canada. A 1000 litre oil tank (Standard) Costs $163.oo for Carbon Tax on home heating oil. The annual cost varies depending oñ how cold the winter would be. Tank last 6 wks.
