„Only immediate action“
The next meeting in a gilded room in Paris must do much better then refer to „the conclusions of a meeting in Versailles in March 2022“. Meet in a sombre setting. And invite Turkey and Canada, too. 🇹🇷🇨🇦
European countries need to work on effective deterrence, including nuclear. (Not relying on the US.) And start now.
Jean Monnet knew, at the most dangerous moment of the Cold War, that only dramatic action, not mere words, mattered:
"I remembered Roosevelt's formula that so struck his countrymen: "We have nothing to fear but fear itself."
In [Europe] in 1950, fear led to paralysis and paralysis led to fatality. It was necessary to get things moving again: "We need to change the course of events. To do this, you have to change people's thinking. Words are no longer enough.
Only immediate action that addresses an essential point can change the current static situation.
What is needed is a profound, real, immediate and dramatic action that changes the situation and brings hope back into the reality that people can no longer believe in."
