Nobody believes the truth In the world of „Biedermann and the arsonists“ (Max Frisch), with MAGA screaming from the rooftops: „We want to do what Milosevic did in the 1990s.“ The US as an identitarian superpower: full video (in 🇩🇪) youtu.be/M08abWatnmY?si… @adam_tooze: x.com/adam_tooze/sta… @AdamKinzinger @thorstenbenner @schieritz @campbellclaret @aufmacher @JaneMayerNYer @zdfmagazin @heuteshow

Link 👇

From @nytimes on West Bank today: “By one count, Israel has detained 20,000 people in the West Bank alone since the Oct. 7 attacks, and more than 9,000 Palestinians were still being held as of this month. Many have not been charged but were detained under ill-defined security grounds, and since 2023, most have been denied visits from the Red Cross and lawyers. “Israeli forces systematically employ rape and sexual torture to humiliate Palestinian female detainees,” the Euro-Med report said. It cited a 42-year-old woman who said she had been shackled naked to a metal table as Israeli soldiers forcibly had sex with her over two days while other soldiers filmed the attacks. Afterward, she said, she was shown photos of her being raped and told they would be published if she did not cooperate with Israeli intelligence.” @NickKristof

This is a hard article to read, but I hope you'll do so. I've spent some time reporting on widespread rape and other sexual violence of Palestinian male and female prisoners by Israeli authorities, and the article is now published. The assault victims were warned not to give speak of what they endured -- they were sometimes told they would be killed or raped if they gave interviews -- but they found the courage to do so. One man described being raped three times in a single day in Israeli prison, the third time after he tried to protest. A young woman said the guards would come in at the beginning of each shift and strip her naked and abuse her. Another reported that she was shown photos of herself being raped and warned they would be released unless she cooperated with Israeli intelligence. Even three children who had been detained told me they had been sexually abused. Look, whatever our position on the Middle East, we should be able to agree on being anti-rape. Sexual assaults were horrific when Israeli women were targeted on Oct. 7, and they're equally horrific when Israeli authorities use them against Palestinians day after day after day. We should be able to find common ground in opposing rape. Here's a gift link to the article: nytimes.com/2026/05/11/opi…

Honored to welcome Boris Pistorius to Kyiv. Germany is now #1 globally in security aid to Ukraine, providing 1/3 of our total support. From Patriot missiles to $1B+ for Ukrainian drones, this aid is already delivering results: 90% drone interceptions & 5k mid-strikes per month. Excited to launch "Brave Germany" with @BRAVE1ua — a joint platform for grants & R&D in AI, UAVs, and missiles. We are building a new European security architecture rooted in Ukrainian tech & combat experience.

VIII The fastest ever accession processes (Finland and Sweden) passed via joining the internal market. This offers a target date now to motivate reforms, which in turn make reaching full membership soon realistic. It is not “symbolic” and it has been done before. Being in the internal market goes far beyond the current Association Agreement. It is a win-win in the spirit of Jean Monnet. There is not one good argument for Ukraine not to ask for such an offer to be on the table.
