That's my 2026 trout season up & running, this beauty the best of 5 landed. The river came up quickly & coloured mid-afternoon from the morning's rain. So it was out with the streamer box to make the most of the conditions. This one took a White Minkie: #minkie_white" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">yorkshire-dales-flyfishing.com/streamers.htm#…

Even before war, UK had highest electricity prices in the world. Because of the insane pursuit of net zero and failure to exploit our own oil/gas. Instead, we pay Norway £40 billion for oil and gas extracted from North Sea fields next to ours. Never forgive @Ed_Miliband

@RogersHistory I fear it may be a rather unpleasant postcard. But yes… the bitter purveyor of poor quality snake oil. Full of braggadocio, and with the assistance of Messrs Dunning & Kruger, the unwitting conqueror of Peak Mount Stupid.

How can someone complain about OFSTED, then make money from selling books about OFSTED, then complain about other ppl who have always been stern critics of OFSTED being establishment pawns. Answers on a postcard.

@wilo1466 @steveharvey2001 @AllisonPearson @Ed_Miliband You’re the fool. You can’t even string a cogent sentence together, so you’ll forgive me for questioning your ability to provide an accurate evaluation of the economic woes of this country. (I’m no of Ed M by the way.) Stick to shagging flags and swallowing right wing clickbait.

@AllisonPearson @Ed_Miliband It only should Miliband never be forgiven - he should be arrested and serve a long prison sentence for being responsible for devastating the UK economy whilst helping to make his brother and mates fortunes! A total and utter crook!

@Southgloshead Really interesting piece of work Simon - depressingly unsurprising around achievement (& much else). I strongly suspect there’ll be a correlation with context too. This was supposed to be an improvement. The profession deserves better. As my son would say: “The game’s gone dad”😞

OFSTED Grade distribution for the 175 primary school inspections published to date. Because it was raining and I was bored. No exceptionals given out since the glut in the pilot schools. Achievement most likely to be judged NA, and also seems to have driven SM judgements.

@SwailesRuth @bekkimamabear Consistent is a word that’s overused & overrated isn’t it. Essentially it means “I’ve seen it a bit more than once”. In Ofsted’s case that’s QED. “So what?” We might ask, & it’s a question I’ve asked of Ofsted for years, zero sum. They need to stop pretending any impact is useful

Credit to Adrian Gray on linkdin, who has found 12/103 Ofsted reports published so far have identical areas for improvement, despite being totally different types of setting. Surely some mistake? Are inspectors using AI? Or simply copying and pasting ?

@SwailesRuth @bekkimamabear The profession deserves better than this. It deserves better than Ofsted too. Big talk, Big listens, big money spent, and where are we? Plus ca change plus c’est la meme chose - but worse.

If Earth were 4 inches closer to the sun, we would all burn up and die. If gravity was .1% stronger, every star would explode instantly. If the Universe expanded 1 mph faster, human life would be impossible. None of this is random. God is real, and his design is perfect.

Having been identified by the DfE as being a ‘beacon for excellence in inclusion’ BH had none other than the Minister for School Standards, Georgia Gould, visit today to learn about our practice. She was joined by @CHazelgroveMP AND SW Dir of Schools, Lucy Livings.

@Southgloshead @Ofstednews Will be interested to read your reflections Simon. Particularly your feel that “strong” is harder to achieve than the former “outstanding” judgement. That feels vaguely absurd to me. Not your reflection, just the recalibration. Have a great weekend when it comes.

New @Ofstednews inspection done. Will blog some observations at the weekend, but inspectors were fair, kind, personable and knowledgeable. The learning walks were a genuine conversation. The timetables flexed to allow more evidence to be gathered. Pls don’t worry if you’re due.

If anyone has not yet done their HT appraisal, I have some dates available to be your independent advisor. I am cheaper (oo-er missus) than the local authorities. DM me. Has to be done by 31st December.

@Southgloshead @TTRadioOfficial 100% agree with that Simon. Lazy thinking and certainly doesn’t reflect my experience of either senior leaders proficiency in, or understanding of high quality pedagogy. Depressing isn’t the word for it.

@TTRadioOfficial Some very lazy thinking here, assuming all leaders don’t understand teaching and that expert teachers aren’t included in improving teaching through instructional coaching and modelling lessons. Neither, in my experience, is true.

Professor Becky Allen on Teacher Observations - "It's the seniority system where senior people who may or may not be okay at teaching gets to go around observing other people teaching who are often more effective than them in the classroom. And we sort of assume that these management people know what they're talking about even though they themselves may not be a very good teacher" Catch up on the podcast here - Has teacher accountability gone too far?: teacherstalkradio.podbean.com/e/has-teacher-…

This half term I have mainly been decorating the front lounge. To be fair, it is a job I’ve been putting off for over a decade. I just really don’t like glossing!

Between 2022 and 2025, I have the privilege of visiting 2 to 3 schools each week, observing over 100 lessons a month. I have written up everything I learned in 16 books.

My first day at Malham Tarn this season, hoping to introducing my mate Phil to its resident brown trout. Luckily they obliged and we both had some cracking trout. Mine took a Humongous fished on an intermediate line close to a weedbed: #black_gold_humongous" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">yorkshire-dales-flyfishing.com/streamers.htm#…
