The same company that “eliminated” 30K roles over the last six months, also had 33k H-1B positions certified this year. And if that wasn’t enough, they’re moving jobs like US Payroll Analyst, Customer Success Manager US and US Tax Analyst to India. US titles, US work, Indian offices and more American workers replaced. Call this what it is: corporate betrayal - we will never forget this.

If you've played by the rules and lawfully waited for years just for a chance at the American dream, Trump now wants you to leave the country, risk your job, and uproot your family to get a green card. By closing more and more legal pathways to citizenship, Trump keeps betraying America's promise.
Homeland Security@DHSgov

An alien who is in the U.S. temporarily and wants a Green Card must return to their home country to apply. This policy allows our immigration system to function as the law intended instead of incentivizing loopholes. The era of abusing our nation’s immigration system is over.

H-1B was built in 1990 when your “talent pool” was whoever could drive to your office. There was no Zoom. No remote. Three decades later, that excuse is dead. We’re laying off tech workers en masse. If your pitch is “not one American can do this so we need the visa,” that's not a shortage, that's a discount.

I feel like getting a job in the UK is more difficult than getting a job in the US. If getting a job is so difficult, why are we importing so many people? You make it so difficult for British citizens to get into work, then act surprised when the young don’t work?

LinkedIn cut 875 employees ten days ago. 5% of its entire workforce. Revenue grew 12% year over year to $4.83 billion last quarter. Now look at this video. The largest LinkedIn office in Asia Pacific, opening in Bengaluru within a month. Run the salary math. A LinkedIn software engineer in the US pulls median total comp of $340,000. The same role in Bengaluru: $95,000. Ratio is 3.5 to 1. The Bengaluru office has owned LinkedIn's search, notifications, and spam infrastructure globally for over a decade. Same codebase. Same products. Same production systems. 875 cuts at US comp rates frees up roughly $300 million in annual payroll. That budget buys over 3,000 engineers in Bengaluru. LinkedIn chose to announce the largest APAC office and the largest layoff in the same month. This is one company. Bengaluru now hosts 875 Global Capability Centers employing over 2 million professionals. Amazon opened its second largest Asian office there in February. Microsoft committed $17.5 billion to India in December. The city produces more Grade-A office space than Shanghai. India's GCC sector generated $64.6 billion last fiscal year. On pace for $100 billion by 2030. Every American tech company is running the same 3.5:1 calculation on the same spreadsheet and arriving at the same answer.

Sod it. For the purposes of full transparency, here are our canvassing returns from Makerfield that we’ve had back so far from the door knocking today. 1,010 sample size. 24.6% for Restore Britain. 31.2% definitely against. 24.2% undecided. 20% considering. Excluding won’t votes. More teams coming back, so the sample size will grow a lot in the next few hours. Largely agrees with what we’ve found over the last week - astounding response with the working class, more difficult with wealthier areas. To be honest. Labour are the opponent in the fancier places, Reform with the working class. Our campaign has just taken off. Great name recognition already, but clearly room to grow. Let’s see what happens. But we’re very happy with progress.

look at this disaster now. People who have been contributing to the US in great ways are being treated like this. Who would want to come to the US if there are so many hurdles? This is gonna be a net loss and a big one if the new law prevails. We need smart people in this country from all over the world.

Feeling robbed of my path to citizenship right now after grinding a PhD and contributing to foundational AI + computing technologies for the United States for the past ~ 10 years. Feels like robbing top and technologists like me of the opportunity to achieve the American Dream.

@Rothmus The crazy thing too is it's White liberals who teach minorities to hate the White-majority. First-born immigrants and foreigners in general (except the "well-educated" ones) have more respect for White ppl.

This is a major reason why mass immigration generates such intense resentment. Many immigrants not only fail to identify with their new country and its native people, but they actively oppose them and everything the host culture represents. Here she is, the same person defines “ethnic cleansing” as the permanent resettlement of an entire ethnic group from their homeland, yet openly celebrates the demographic decline of the white British population, declaring “We are winning.” This isn’t treason. Treason implies betrayal from within a group. This is something else entirely: a demographic invasion by people who were never part of the historic British nation. An ethnic cleansing per her own definition. When native Britons say “send them all back,” it’s really hard not to sympathize.

Took me 8 years to get a green card. And that’s only because I did a special petition via EB1. I know of people who’ve been in the country for 25 years, have kids and still don’t have a green card.
Trevor Blackwell@tlbtlbtlb

People may not know that the processing time for green card applications are months to years. So someone could come on a O-1 or H-1B, work for 5 years, become critical in their role, apply, and then have to abandon their job. Incredibly harmful to US industry.

Many of the best researchers at OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta and other frontier labs are not U.S. citizens. They are in the U.S. on temporary visas while building the very systems Washington increasingly describes as critical to national security. Forcing them to leave the country to apply for a Green Card adds uncertainty, delays and risk to one of America’s biggest advantages: attracting the world’s best technical talent. I'm not American, so take this with a grain of salt. But from what I've researched, it makes many things significantly more complicated for OpenAI and Anthropic.
