Most wickets in County Championship history 🏏 These records belong to a completely different cricketing world. AP “Tich” Freeman leads the way with 3,151 wickets and an unbelievable 328 five-wicket hauls. A Kent leg-spinner and one of the greatest wicket-taking machines in cricket history, he also holds the wider first-class record for most five-wicket hauls. Wilfred Rhodes is next: 3,119 wickets at 15.72. A Yorkshire icon, England great, and one of cricket’s ultimate all-round careers - starting as a brilliant left-arm spinner and later becoming a serious opening batter too. Charlie Parker took 3,022 wickets, mostly for Gloucestershire. A slow left-armer with huge workload and vicious spin, he remains one of first-class cricket’s all-time leading wicket-takers. Then you’ve got Tom Goddard, another Gloucestershire giant, and Derek Shackleton, Hampshire’s relentless seam metronome, who took 100 wickets in 20 consecutive seasons. Modern bowlers simply don’t live in this statistical universe. #CountyCricket #Cricket #CountyChampionship Stats by redballcricketstats.com

Nineteen-year-old Ian Botham is caught at slip by Mike Brearley off Tim Lamb in the match between Middlesex and Somerset at Lord's, May 15th 1975. Five years later Botham succeeded Brearley as England captain; a year after that Brearley in turn replaced Botham

@afneil Starmer & Reeves should join him on the campaign trail in Makerfield. He loses & Starmer removes him as a challenger.

British politics will reach a new reductio ad absurdum in the Makerfield by election: Vote Labour to destroy the sitting Labour Prime Minister. Support Labour PM Starmer but NOT voting Labour. We are having a by-election not because there’s any demand or need in the national interest but entirely to suit the convenience of the byzantine politics of the ruling party and the political pygmies in whose interest it is run. We are no longer a serious nation. No wonder the bond markets are squiffy.

@RaminNasibov The actor Mark Wahlberg was supposed to be on American Airlines Flight 11 on 9/11/01 that crashed into the World Trade Center North Tower. He had a last-minute change of plans. Seth McFarland (of Ted and The Family Guy) also missed that same flight. He was hungover.
