Japanese researchers (Kyoto University Hospital / Kitano Hospital, led by Katsu Takahashi) started Phase 1 human trials in late 2024 for an antibody drug targeting USAG-1 protein to activate dormant tooth buds. It worked in mice/ferrets; now testing safety in adults missing teeth. Early 2026 data shows no major issues so far. Goal: possible availability ~2030.
