The Ukrainians shouldn't have signed the deal. The whole world has learned a lesson about America.

There was no hidden trick or false promise about military defense. U.S. negotiators were explicit at the time that they were offering political/security assurances, not binding security guarantees. Ukraine's leaders knew this distinction—they pushed for stronger guarantees but accepted the weaker language because it came with tangible benefits: U.S. financial/technical aid for dismantlement (hundreds of millions via Nunn-Lugar), compensation for the uranium in the warheads (turned into reactor fuel), debt relief, and energy support. The U.S. did fulfill the letter of its commitments: It never threatened Ukraine's borders, provided dismantlement aid, and has supported Ukraine diplomatically and materially since Russia's violations. Russia is the clear violator.

Noone tricked Ukraine into anything.. Ukraine received Compensation for the highly enriched uranium (HEU) in the warheads (which Russia would down-blend into reactor fuel for Ukraine's power plants). America agreed to Respect Ukraine's independence, sovereignty, and existing borders. Refrain from the threat or use of force against Ukraine's territorial integrity or political independence (except in self-defense or per the UN Charter). Not use economic coercion. Seek immediate UN Security Council action if Ukraine faced nuclear aggression. Not use nuclear weapons against Ukraine (with narrow exceptions). The United States has fulfilled its end of the Memorandum..The US never agreed to seek UN security action...And the U.S. did... It was never a defensive agreement and Ukraine knew this when it was agreed upon.

I did not support Trump's decision to attack Iran. The US faced no immediate threat; deterrence was working. But if Trump succeeds in bringing democracy to the Iranian people and eliminating Iran's nuclear problem forever, those will be achievements. But not achieved yet.
