One of the strangest experiences I’ve ever had with AI happened with my Alexa Echo Show last week. I was in another room watching TV when Alexa suddenly activated on its own and said: “Let’s find out who this is.” Then it began describing my actual kitchen in detail through the camera - including objects sitting on my counter. I never asked it to do this. I never said “Alexa.” Closed captions on the TV showed nothing remotely close to that phrase. When I confronted it, the explanations kept changing: - first it claimed I asked, - then it claimed I showed it a picture, - then it displayed a stock kitchen image that resembled mine while still referencing real objects from my actual kitchen. The app history literally states: “I described what I saw through my camera.” Whether this was a false activation, AI hallucination, software bug, or something else entirely, it was deeply unsettling.
