I’m not exactly sold on Slot, and I’ve got plenty of reservations about his man management but the constant rewriting of every situation to fit the same narrative is getting ridiculous. Jones gets dropped and it’s instantly framed as a fallout with Slot. Chiesa doesn’t come off the bench and it’s supposedly a personal issue with Slot. Diaz sold and without fail it’s pinned on Slot again. Konate doesn’t sign a new contract? Somehow that’s on Slot as well. It’s like every single development has to be forced into this idea that there’s some dressing room drama bubbling away behind the scenes. Football just doesn’t work like that. Managers rotate, players lose form, tactics change, contracts run down, agents push for moves, clubs make financial decisions sometimes, it’s as simple as that. Not every call is a vendetta, not every absence is a feud, and not every transfer or contract situation is some grand statement from the manager. By all means question Slot, criticise the decisions, that’s part of being a fan. But inventing motives to make everything line up with a set narrative helps no one and just turns every normal decision into a soap opera.
