When Brown tried to highlight his allegations against Mkhwanazi, Chaskalson quickly reminded him that it was his turn to answer and that Mkhwanazi's turn to answer questions put to him would come. This past Saturday’s tragic sequence of events near Bela-Bela has left multiple people dead and a family shattered. According to reports, a man was allegedly struck and killed by a vehicle driven by an off-duty SAPS member. Shortly thereafter, his wife reportedly attempted to cross the road with her two children, one strapped to her back, to get to the scene of the earlier accident. They were then struck by the official vehicle transporting Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, allegedly driven by a member attached to SAPS Protection Security Services. The mother and baby later died from their injuries. The minister, his protection team and the driver reportedly stopped immediately, remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Given that SAPS members were involved in both incidents, IPID’s investigation will be critically important. I will monitor the matter closely and follow up to ensure that the investigation is conducted properly, independently and transparently, and that the affected family receives answers. Behind every case number are real people, grieving families and lives permanently changed. IC

One of the things we got from our meeting with EThekwini Municipalityis that since these shops all over our CBD are non-compliant, they don’t comply to the environmental safety regulations so even their waste isn’t collected the way it should and they end up throwing their dirt all over the city!!
